Long recovery for Astra Park stabbing victim

SAPS need to patrol more, said stabbed resident.

An Astra Park resident will need up to 18 months to recover from a stabbing incident at his Cane Way home on Sunday night, 20 April.

Donovan Bowen (41) was sitting on his verandah, playing with his cellphone at about 9pm when an intruder jumped over his fence. “When I looked up, the one guy was already inside my yard, while another waited outside,” he said. “I shouted at him. When he came for me, I fought him off as my folks were inside and I didn’t want him to gain entry to the house.”

Donovan was slashed on his right forearm, damaging nerves and tendons.

The two men made their getaway empty-handed.

“I’m in a cast for six to eight weeks and the doctor said it could take 18 months for me to recover. It’s not ideal as I run my own business. I can’t even drive.”

Donovan thanks the CCPO, who quickly responded and posted a guard in the Bowen’s garden while Donovan was driven to hospital by his father.

“We often see security vehicles driving in our neighbourhood, but it’s been a long time since we have seen an SAPS van. We need more SAPS vehicles patrolling our neighbourhood to deter these criminals,” he said.
