TORONTO — This week’s episode of The Blacklist was removed from Chinese video streaming sites Wednesday because it portrays China’s government in a negative light.
A message posted on Tencent — one of China’s most popular video sites — explained the episode “failed to get approval” from censors because “it touched on sensitive topics.”
The latest episode focused on a Chinese immunologist imprisoned by the government for treason who is extracted from a labour camp by U.S. agents.
The drama, which airs Monday nights on Global, stars James Spader, Megan Boone and Canadian actor Diego Klattenhoff.
The Blacklist is among the most popular shows on Chinese websites like Youku, Tencent and Sohu.
It’s the second time this season an episode of The Blacklist has been censored in China due to a storyline.
