Macy Gray talks recent hospitalization and calls herself a 'vampire,' leaving fans confused

Macy Gray's appearance on the British talk show "Lorraine" Tuesday raised some eyebrows with viewers.

During the interview, the singer, 51, made an unusual joke when asked why she was in the hospital just a few days ago.

"I'm a vampire," Gray said, before explaining further. "I have a low blood count, so like every two or three years I run out of blood... I want to just go bite people, but it's illegal."

Twitter users were quick to react to her comments on the show.

"How can they let Macy Gray on tv in that state???" one person tweeted with the hashtag #Lorraine.

"What’s up with Macy Gray, she seems a bit out of it???!!!" another tweeted.

Others thought people were being too hard on her.

"#MacyGray Unfair. She's been ill - has a low blood count.  She's tired that's all. And doing well," one person tweeted.

In the comment section of Gray's latest Instagram, another person wrote, "I hope you’re feeling better. Love U"

Gray posted to her Instagram Saturday about being in the hospital, only three days prior to the interview.

"I'm on tour and I wound up in the hospital in Rotterdam," she said. "Not for you to feel sorry for me or not, I'm going to be fine... I just want all y'all up and coming artists to know like you go on Instagram and you see all these people posting pictures with their Bentleys and their jets, but I'm just telling you the other side of it is, you get exhausted. (Expletive) is hard work."

USA TODAY has reached out to Gray's rep for comment.
