Canadiens sweep Tampa Bay, advance to 2nd round

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens have advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after sweeping the Tampa Bay Lightning in four straight games.

Max Pacioretty scored the winner on a power play with 43 seconds to play, and Carey Price stopped 20 shots to lift the Habs to a 4-3 win over the Bolts on Tuesday.

Daniel Briere, Brendan Gallagher and Lars Eller also scored for the Canadiens.

Ondrej Palat had a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay, Victor Hedman pulled the Lightning to within one goal three minutes into the third period, and Tyler Johnson tied the game three minutes later.

Back-up goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis replaced Anders Lindback in net after Gallagher’s goal 5:42 into the second period. Lindbak gave up three goals on 20 shots while Gudlevskis stopped 16 of 17 shots in relief.

It’s Montreal’s first playoff series win since 2010.
