Florida Proposes State Resolution Declaring Porn a Public Health Crisis

State Representative Ross Spano has proposed a state resolution declaring pornography a public health crisis.

The proposal states that: “The public health crisis created by pornography and acknowledges the need for education, prevention, research, and policy change to protect the citizens of this state.”

This is a great step forward! Already Utah, Arkansas, Tennessee, and South Dakota have formally recognized the public health harms of pornography. Will Flordia be next?

Experts have framed pornography as a public health crisis for years and this past summer, members of the U.S. Congress were educated on these realities in a Capitol Symposium hosted by our organization.

Children and young people are being exposed to violent and degrading content, which by default has served as their sex education.

Once a social or health issue involves problems that affect individuals or groups beyond their capacity to correct – responsibility shifts from individual accountability to holding the forces and influences that cause it accountable. While educating individual parents to guide and protect their children is always part of any prevention plan, the problem is well beyond what individual parents and children can do to protect themselves.
