Baby Blythe Blog is an Indiana blog that originally served to keep family in the loop but has grown to include thoughtful posts on parenting and motherhood.

Why did you start Baby Blythe Blog?
I started blogging when my husband and I first got pregnant in January of 2012. I wanted to document the pregnancy and I also thought it would be a great way to keep friends and family updated. Shortly after finding out I was pregnant, I miscarried. I hadn’t shared the blog with anyone aside from my husband at that point, and I continued to blog because I found it to be therapeutic.
We found out we were pregnant again in April 2012, and I continued to write. I ended up sharing it with friends and family much later and it grew from there.
What about that name? Why Baby Blythe Blog?
My husband and I always knew that we would not find out the gender of our first child. So regardless of the baby being a boy or girl, I knew we would have to refer to it as Baby Blythe until the baby was born (Blythe is our last name.) I’m an English teacher, so I appreciated the alliteration and “blog” fit in nicely at the end.

What keeps you ready and raring to post? Why do you blog?
At first, I only blogged for myself. It was simply a way to get my thoughts and feelings out. Then, as my blog began to grow, I realized that some of the topics I was writing about were really helping some people, and that gave me the motivation to keep writing. I don’t have a strict blogging schedule or anything like that. I just write when I feel like it or when the “spirit moves me.”
What can people expect when they hop onto your blog?
People can expect a honest perspective. Sometimes I write about some controversial topics, but I figure if I’m feeling a certain way, I’m sure another mom is, too. I take a lot of pictures and sometimes go overboard, so they can expect lots of (sometimes useless) pictures of my son Porter.
You cover motherhood topics a lot. What was the biggest surprise about motherhood for you?
Motherhood offers new surprises every day. My son is constantly learning and changing, and so am I. There is no perfect way to parent, and while one day I may feel like I have it all figured out, the next day I may feel insane and at the end of my rope.
Becoming a mom completely changed my life. I know that’s an obvious statement, and I knew it was going to change me, my life, and my entire world, but I wasn’t sure how. My life is crazier and more hectic, but it’s also more joyful. One thing I didn’t expect was the mommy guilt. I never knew it was a real thing until I had a child of my own.
You’ve got the entire day to yourself. What would you do?
It’s hard to imagine an entire day to myself because it rarely happens. Some pampering–such as a massage or pedicure–would be at the top of my list. I’d also love to enjoy a really good meal and then curl up on a couch in front of a fireplace with a cup of coffee and a good book.
Is there anything else that you would like little Indiana readers to know about you or your blog?
My blog isn’t fancy. It’s just me, my writing, and way too many pictures. I love being a mom and I count my blessings because I know it’s a privilege that many women don’t get to experience.
