In a recent interview, the creator of Masters of Sex suggested that she hoped to capture the whole lives of Bill and Virginia's life together and possibly see their relationship to the end, in their marriage.

The Showtime series helmer, Michele Ashford, spoke to SheKnows on April 16 at Hollywood Radio and Television Society's Hitmakers Newsmaker luncheon. he event also featured Orange is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan and Bates Motels' Carlton Cuse.

In real life Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) ended up getting married. When asked if viewers will get to see the biographic series conclude the same way, Ashford suggested that she hoped to get there.

"Their personal life was the most unusual love story I'd ever read," she said. "When you're trying to tell a love story, it's hard to find a fresh take. But theirs was so peculiar and compelling, I got so excited and said, 'There's a TV show.'" 

She also added that it depended on the length the series would be allowed as she wished to capture the entirety of their relationship. Ashford also confirmed that it any hints of a marriage on the card would definitely not come up in the next season.

"If we have a long life, we intend to go the whole length of their lives together. There's a lot to be done," she said.

Season 2 of Masters of Sex returns to Showtime on July 13.
