Louisville takes down #22 FSU 68-49

Florida State has had Louisville’s number as of late. The Cards have lost 4 of the last 5 against the Seminoles including a brutal comeback win in the Yum last season. With that memory still lingering in the Cards’ minds they did not let off the gas tonight. Yes Florida State made its runs, but Louisville always had the answer.

Speaking of answers, Asia Durr seemed to find the answer to her semi-slump. She led all scorers with 29 points off of 10-16 shooting. She also had 7 rebounds. After the game Coach Walz said, “I was excited for Asia she seemed to have that bounce back in her step.”

Kylee Shook had her best game of the season. She finished with 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots but showed a toughness not always seen in her play. Coach Walz praised her play saying, “It’s probably the most aggressive I’ve seen her play and she ended with 5 blocked shots, but she altered a ton more than that. So I was really happy for her because I’ve been challenging her. I’m always teasing with her that it’s like you’re walking through the tulips out there in Colorado Springs...tonight she got scratched on the face, there was a little blood but got right back out there.”

This game also marked a return home for Tallahassee native Jazmine Jones who stayed out of foul trouble and had 8 points and 4 rebounds. Coach Walz said, “It’s really special. I was excited for her. She was nervous. She had about 70 people here on the pass list and she played great. She competed and really went after it so I was proud of her.”

Louisville had a good rebounding night outrebounding FSU 37-25. However, after doing a good job protecting the job in the past tonight they finished with 17 turnovers. Coach Walz said, “We’ve got to cut down on turnovers. We could be special if we can average about 10 turnovers or less and then start rebounding the basketball. Now we’ve rebounded but we turned it over 17 times.”

Next up the Cards come home to face Pitt in the Yum. The game is on Sunday the 27th at 2PM. Coach Walz said, “I hope we get a great crowd to come out and support these young women because you’re running out of games....It would just be outstanding if we could get a huge crowd out there.”
