WINNIPEG – A man has died following a house fire on the 300 block of Enfield Crescent near Marion Street, District 3 fire Chief Al West told Global News.
Emergency services were dispatched to the fire shortly after 5 a.m., police said. There were eight residents who escaped the five-suite building on their own, but one man was trapped in the basement, they told fire crews.
Fire crews could be seen pulling the man from the basement as smoke billowed from the 2.5-storey home. Paramedics performed CPR on the man for a number of minutes before he was taken away in an ambulance.
He was prounounced dead at the Health Sciences Centre just after 6 a.m.
No word yet on what sparked the fire, but the Winnipeg Arson Strike Force is investigating.
