I've tried to do the whole no sugar thing. Once I even made it a full hour. But in an office where cakes are as common as breton tops and pondering what to bake each weekend is as big a question as how to balance your work and life, it's tricky to stay clean. Until now.Because The Detox Kitchen has just launched its first standalone store off Carnaby St, central London. Founder Lily Simpson has previously been accruing accolades from the likes of Elle Macpherson and Gwynnie (anyone even partly responsible for those bodies get more than just my vote. My utter devotion, too), with her deli inside Harvey Nichols and mail order health deliveries, and now she's opening to the masses. On launch night, I sipped a green smoothie with Red's Health Director Brigid Moss, who knows her way around a food trend and can cut to the heart of any health matter. "This is incredible," she smiled, taking in the platters of towering salad, the trays of aubergine topped with pomegranate and something that looked white and clean and, well, quite simply, good for you. "I'll be here all the time."Lily Simpson is working on a book, a compendium of health-filled recipes that, like what she serves in the deli, are rich in plant based foods and lean protein. "They'll make you feel more energised, less stressed and lighter," she says. So next time you're in town, pop in to the deli, grab a bag of healthy-but-not-dull-tasting lunch, feel smug you're not polluting your body. Undoubtedly you'll bump into a Red staffer, too.
