 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    April 14, 2014 18:49 (Edited: February 17, 2023 05:19)
BEST TV
Winner: Thai Life Insurance: Unsung Hero. A powerful bit of storytelling that unveils an authentic snapshot of humanity at its finest. I watched this over and over again, finding new elements that made it better with every viewing. I'm torn whether I would categorize this as a tearjerker or feel good commercial of the year. Perhaps that's what makes it so amazing.

Runner Up: Lurpak Cook's Range: Adventure Awaits. This is the commercial that the countless manifestos we all write hope to be when they grow up. An elegantly crafted and beautifully directed film about discovering the many culinary adventures that lie ahead. Deliciously simple.

BEST PRINT
Winner: Corona Kitchen: 3D Newspaper. Can we finally stop saying that print is dead? Absolutely stunning work. Altered perspectives, indeed.

Runner Up: Volkswagen: Dog. Simple yet substantial. True to the heritage of the VW ads that have come before it; a witty and memorable product story. Is this print or shareable content? Yes.

BEST OUTDOOR
Winner: IBSR/BIVV: What If You Were Invited To Your Own Funeral. This ambient idea is definitely a wake- up call, more like a staggering punch to the jaw, to those who habitually drive over the speed limit. It's haunting, moving and fingers crossed, unforgettable.

Runner Up: The Pilion Trust: Fuck The Poor. Part ambient idea and part social experiment. This fantastic and slightly troubling idea shows how, unfortunately, sometimes it takes the power of provocation to get any response at all.

BEST INTERACTIVE
Winner: AS Colour: Colourmatic. An interactive idea with true interactivity! Wonderful. Creativity meets technology meets retail. When brands offer utility that is both entertaining and truly valuable, everyone wins. Well done, lads.

Runner Up: Australian Red Cross: Embers of Empathy. A beautiful and impactful way to provide relief and recovery support for those who desperately need it. We may not be able to avoid disasters such as bushfires, but ideas like 'Embers of Empathy' make certain that at least some good can come from such loss. Very inspiring.
