Hostel rooms set alight after fatal love triangle

Residents set fire to a man's home after he stabbed another to death in Jacobs.

ANGRY Jacobs Hostel residents set rooms ablaze on Sunday, 13 April after a man stabbed another to death during an altercation.

At about 3pm two men at the Jacobs hostel got into an argument over a love triangle.

As the argument heated up, one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed the other 14 times. The 35-year-old died within seconds and his assailant fled the area on foot.

Incensed hostel residents allegedly vented their wrath by setting alight two rooms belonging to the fleeing man and his girlfriend.

Cases of murder and arson have been opened at Brighton Beach police station. “The police will work around the clock to make sure the suspect in a murder case is brought to book. I strongly discourage the actions taken by the community – taking the law into their own hands. Those who allegedly set alight the property after the incident will be arrested and charged with arson,” said KZN provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
