Calderside Academy, Blantyre, successfully hosted yet another charity fundraising day recently - and this time raised over £800 for the Rainbow Trust.

The Rainbow Trust provides care and support for terminally ill children and their families throughout the UK, a cause that pupils and organisers of the charity day, Mull House captains Charlaye Blair and Erin Phillips, felt extremely worthwhile.

In fact the girls managed to raise a grand total of £825.39 for their charity of choice through a number of activities in the school including a crazy hair day, a staff versus senior pupils tug of war, a rainbow sweetie mix-ups sale, charity wristbands, and a face painting and coloured hairspray stall .

The pair also collectedin loose change from first year pupils during registration as an incentive to enable the junior school members to watch a film of their choice during their last two periods of the day - and the response was amazing!

S6 pupil Charlaye, joint organiser of the fundraiser, told the Advertiser: “The day was a great success with a huge amount of support from staff and pupils.

“Although at times it a very stressful experience we are very glad to have had the opportunity to organise such an event and are proud of what we achieved.”

Erin added: “The experience gave us a chance to develop our confidence and communication skills, qualities which we hope will set us in good stead for higher education and beyond.

“In addition we also achieved an SQA qualification in leadership which has assisted us in pursuing our future careers.

“All in all it was extremely rewarding knowing that all our hard work will contribute to helping those in need.”
