WCVB-TV hosts telethon to benefit One Fund Boston

WCVB-TV hosts telethon to benefit One Fund Boston

On Tuesday, April 15, WCVB-TV Channel 5 will host a telethon to benefit One Fund Boston.  The proceeds will help support the ongoing needs of the victims of last year's attack on the Boston Marathon.Hosted by WCVB's Kelley Tuthill, the telethon will take place at Towne Stove & Spirits in the Back Bay (900 Boylston Street) from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Telecommunications support will be provided by AT&T, the Boston Marathon's official wireless provider since 2008.   WCVB will report from the telethon site as part of its extensive day long coverage of the one year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings.WCVB's Chronicle news magazine will also broadcast live during the telethon for their special hour-long marathon show that evening (7:00 – 8:00 p.m.). "Since last year's attacks on the Marathon, WCVB has followed the progress of many of the survivors, and chronicled their bravery and resiliency in the face of incredible hardship," said Bill Fine, WCVB President and General Manager.  "We are confident that this telethon will help raise additional awareness and much needed funds for One Fund Boston, an organization that has played an integral role in providing ongoing support and financial assistance to many survivors."Throughout the telethon, viewers will be urged to call 844-617-FUND(3863) to donate money to help assist victims defray medical costs and other ongoing expenses including rehabilitation, prosthetics, among other looming expenses. People can also contribute by texting BOSTON to 80108 to give $10. The donation will be charged on their monthly wireless bill. "This telethon provides us all with an opportunity to ensure the survivors continue to receive the care and support they need, and we applaud WCVB-TV for their commitment to One Fund Boston and to telling these important stories."Reports from the telethon will be included as part of the special day long broadcast (4:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.)WCVB has planned to mark the year anniversary of the tragic events that transpired at last year’s Boston Marathon.  The extensive coverage, "Boston Strong: One Year Later," will focus on the survivors, the heroes, and the four people killed in the tragic events that unfolded on April 15, 2013. Former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will join WCVB live Tuesday morning, exclusively prior to the tribute, to provide insight on the day’s events.  Also included will be in-depth profiles of survivors as they cope with injuries and share both their triumphs and struggles. Live coverage will be included of the tribute being organized by the City of Boston and the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) that honors the victims, survivors, and heroes. All of WCVB's main anchors will be reporting on the day’s commemorative and inspirational events including Ed Harding, Heather Unruh, J.C. Monahan, Phil Lipof, Randy Price, Bianca de la Garza and Erika Tarantal. WCVB's day long coverage on April 15 culminates with a special one-hour marathon-themed Chronicle from 7-8 p.m.
