Rainbow bright! Demi Lovato steps out with multi-coloured hair extensions... but they're just clip ons

Demi Lovato cut a brightly coloured figure on Saturday as she stepped out with a rather different hair style.

The 21-year-old was spotted leaving a West Hollywood gay bar with what appeared to be a two toned hair style -  her brunette locks were tucked under a baseball cap with purple, blue and pink strands showing. 

However, it seems the former X Factor judge was only wearing extensions, having recently vowed to take care of her hair.

Surrounded by bodyguards, Demi's pink and blue hair clips were draped over one shoulder as she headed from the club.

The star posted an Instagram of the back of her hair, flashing two peace signs and re-assuring her fans that it was all in fun.

She posted, 'They're clip-ons... I'm still brunette y'all... Haha.'

In fact, her brunette bangs were clearly visible under her black hat, a refreshing change for her strands, which have taken a turn in neon pink, electric blue, bright red and bleach blonde over the years.

Sporting a bright shade of red lipstick, the performer wore a Jimmy Hendrix crop top, revealing her midriff, a black leather jacket and black pants.

Demi has an on-off relationship with actor Wilmer Valderrama, was apparently enjoying a night off and taking a much-need break before her Neon Lights Tour carries on.

She will head to Sao Paulo, Brazil on April 22, before the tour eventually winds up in Monterrey, Mexico on May 17.

However, fans in Australia have been campaigning via Twitter for the star to add more dates to her busy schedule.

Demi has had her share of troubles including a stint in rehab, but owes her current success to clean living on and off the stage - a strict rule that she applies to everyone who works for her too.

'Everyone on the team is required to stay clean and focused. It's not about trying to party,' Demi recently told TV show Extra.

Like her hair colour, Demi's romance with Wilmer has had its share of break-ups and make-ups.

The couple initially started dating in 2010 but later split.
