MUKWONAGO -- Mukwonago Police have located a 15-year old driver who fled from the scene of a severe vehicle crash Monday morning.

It happened just before 2:00 a.m. on Holz Parkway in front of Fire Station 1.

According to police, the 15-year old male driver fled the scene on foot after crashing a four door sedan into a utility pole.

A 14-year old female passenger was extricated from the car and taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital with severe injuries.

The mangled vehicle was towed from the area around 6:30 a.m.

Village of Mukwonago Police Chief Kevin Schmidt said the car belonged to the 15-year old's parents.

"I would estimate the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and hit the pole," Schmidt said.

Following the crash, first responders from across Waukesha County began an extensive search for the missing, 15-year old male.

"Due to the severity and scope of the accident, the Village Of Mukwonago Police Departmant requested the assistance of the Waukesha County Sheriff and the Mukwonago Fire Department for search and rescue of the driver," police said in a news release.

"As the search area expanded several more fire departments were called to search the wooded and swamp areas along the Fox River," police said. "After approximately three hours of search and rescue it became evident, through communications, that the driver was evading law enforcement and was not injured."

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting Mukwonago PD with accident reconstruction.

Schmidt said police plan to interview the teenage driver later today.

"We're going to look at endangering safety by reckless driving (charges), we're going to look at operating without a license (charges)," Schmidt said. "We'll be talking to the boy this afternoon and, once our investigation is done, we'll be forwarding the case on to the Waukesha County District Attorney's office."
