UPDATE: ATWT Wins GLAAD Media Award!!
ATWT was nominated because of the Luke/Noah storyline, which has come under fire of late because some fans say the storyline isn't moving fast enough. Since their first kiss in August, the couple has barely held hands, much less taken their relationship further. In fact, during the special Valentine's Day episode when every other couple featured kissed, Luke and Noah only hugged.
When Iraqi citizen Ameera came into town a few weeks ago, Luke and Noah fans really began to see red. When Noah actually married Ameera last week so that she could stay in the country, many fans were very upset. Still, the powers that be assure us that the storyline is moving forward but that this is a story they wish to tell in "real time" rather than the fast-forward way many romance stories are told. Could Ameera be just another bump in the road to happiness for our two guys? We'll have to watch and see.
A few weeks ago I had the chance to chat with Jake Silbermann, Noah. This is what he had to say about the storyline, fan reaction and his character.
"[The fans have] been very supportive. I'm honored to be part of such an important storyline. I didn't really know what to expect (but) everyone has been great and I've made some really good friends."
Where will the romance go and how fast will it get there? We will have to wait and see, but it is encouraging to note that Van Hansis, Luke, has signed a new contract with the show. As of now Jake Silbermann is still on recurring status, however.
Both Jake and Van were on hand last night at the March 17, 2008 awards to make a presentation. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize media for the accurate, fair and inclusive representations of the bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender community and the issues which affect their lives. There are three more ceremonies: in South Florida at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on April 12; and in Los Angeles on April 26 at the Kodak Theatre; and finally in San Francisco on May 10 at the San Francisco Marriott. The awards will also be broadcast on the Bravo television network later this year. There is no date for that yet, but we will let you know when the televised event will be aired!
Update:
Soaps.com has learned that the BRAVO television network will air the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on June 27, 2008 at 7 PM Eastern & Pacific Time.
The special presentation will include presentations from all four ceremonies. As many of you know, Van Hansis (Luke), Jake Silberrman (Noah) and Tala Ashe (Ameera) attended the New York awards ceremony, where As The World Turns won the award for Outstanding Daily Drama. Van and Jake also presented an award during that ceremony.

Since the awards show, life in Oakdale has been spiced up a little – with another kiss for the two lovebirds. However, it is clear that the romance still has a rocky road.
Noah’s in-name-only wife, Ameera, seems to be falling in love with him, Luke has the guilts for spending any time with Noah and Noah has to decide whether to follow his heart to Luke or help Ameera stay in the country. Oh, and don’t forget that Noah’s dad, Col. Mayer, is headed back to Oakdale very soon. Yes, it could be a very rough road for the duo!
