World’s largest duty-free store to open in China

China’s Hainan province will soon be home to the world’s largest duty free store.

The provincial government will expand the duty-free store in Sanya, a popular tourist city, from 10,000 sqm to 60,000 sqm. The Sanya Haitang Bay International Shopping Mall will house international brands and fashion labels, hotels, restaurants and entertainment.

The government plans to promote Hainan as an international tourist destination, hence, the expansion of Sanya duty free store.

China supports it by issuing duty-free policies, tax refunds after departure, and visa exemptions for tourists from 26 countries.

Duty free sales in Hainan increased 40 per cent in 2013 and are expected to grow even more this year.
