Tad Nelson was great. He was very responsive to me and my family. He was able to get a sentenced reduced to half the time on a very difficult case. He was working so hard with his office staff. I really appreciate him and his team for getting this done.

Mayonnaise Texas legal type folks sure can be long in the tooth....
Called to arrange an appointment with an associate attorney for a consultation, who was not in the office at the time. Was never called back. Called again, and the transfer to the admin was disconnected, with no attempt to call back. Finally scheduled a consultation. Ended up meeting with the Nelson himself, and all of his huberific glory. It is almost painfully obvious that his clientele are frequently the type to spin yarns and tell tales and half- truths, because he was basically acting as the opposing client's attorney in my family's case (adoption of my daughter by my husband).

During the consultation: He cocked himself back in his chair, and practically put his boots on his desk. He was very adamant that there would be a significant out of pocket expense, to the tune of $5-10K, with the intonation in his voice as if we wouldn't be able to afford his services. Called my husband "Steve" immediately after asking his name (he goes by Stephen, and said it like that), and told us we would have to go "hat in hand" to my daughter's father to have him voluntarily relinquish his rights (although, he could not seem to suggest any alternative given my daughter's father's criminal and domestic history, which is actually viable through court). Told me, point blank, that if he were my daughter's father, he would have me arrested for not bringing her to see him because he is paying a measly $225/mo child support which I have not threatened to increase.

Several things here... Her father asked to see her on my husband's birthday, which was also our wedding day. I am 6 months pregnant. Additionally, I had a two-year protective order against him, which was violated. We were never married, and no court ordered visitation order exists. Also, my daughter has severe food allergies, and her father is not an adequate model for responsibility and moral environment. AND, we live at least two hours from her father, who generally resides in a hotel because of his sporatic work schedule due to his employment as a general laborer in construction.

None of these issues mattered to Mr. Nelson, who we saw leaving as we were also returning to our vehicle, who then RE-asked where my daughter's father lives. He then told us we would have to make some "adult decisions" (that is a direct quote) about this matter. I've never been more insulted by an attorney, not even one of my law professors who called me a "demon woman" when I was earning my paralegal degree. Save yourself the time, and money, and file your own petition for step-parent adoption with the courts if you can. Please do not interpret that as legal advice, just a DIY shout out. Avoid this pompous windbag, who probably eats beef jerky for breakfast and doesn't seem to support civilized families.

I waited 2 years to write this review just to be sure everything cleared and I did not have to go back to him for his services. The office personnel is rude, no return calls, attorney was not well informed on what steps to take to progress the case in court. Not that he did didn't get his information but not knowing what the court required to move the case forward. Then when it came to working on TX DL their charges are outrageous, with a little research myself I saved $500, that's what they wanted to send a doc that I had access to for a TXDL. Two thumbs down, you have other options when spending your hard earned money on an attorney.

I referred close friends to Tad when their teenager got arrested in High School with drugs. I knew if they wanted to get the BEST help and representation, TAD IS THE MAN. He is by far the top criminal defense attorney in Galveston County, if not Harris County too. He is sincere, dedicated, experienced, and incredibly smart. He is a man of conviction who believes in the justice system and its due processes. He will negotiate like no other to get the best possible outcome. He continues higher education to stay on top of his game. I can not say enough good things about him. Bottom line, if you want the best defense for you or your loved one, use Tad! Oh, and the teenager with her first "offense" got all charges dropped. Way to go Tad and Amber!

VERY disappointed in Tad Nelson. A laundry list of reasons, too many to mention all of them here; however, he was arrogant, unprofessional, disrespectful, and insulting to name a few AND he was ALL about the money. We put up with it, falsely believing that it might just be worth it, IF he turned out to be as good as HE said he was, but even that turned out not to be the case.

He seemed to have no desire, just lazy, or possibly just lacked the talent to come up with any sort of defense. With many conversations, it felt as if we were talking to a prosecutor, not a defense lawyer. He was always taking the OTHER SIDE in all of our conversations which is NOT why we hired him. And since he (smartly) requires that you pay the full amount up front there's nothing left to get another lawyer once you realize you have made a big mistake. He could not even win a misdemeanor trial for us. The prosecutor "ate his lunch"! It was pathetic.

If it had not been for another lawyer who joined his firm and took over our case, I don't know where we would have ended up. At least this other lawyer was able to salvage something for us, and we have moved on with our lives. But do yourself a favor and skip over this attorney when you are getting ready to hire. You will be so glad you did. This other lawyer eventually wised up (I can only assume) and left Tad Nelson's firm shortly after our case ended.

I hope this review will spare some other family the pain and frustration we experienced throughout the entire process.

Please do not hire this man, you will be so sorry you did.
