Background of the SOMY project
•  Finnish schools have introduced social media rapidly and widely during
the past few years
•  These pilots are steered by a national social media coordination project
for Finnish general education, SOMY
•  SOMY coordination is funded by the Finnish National Board of
Education (FNBE) and carried out by Otava Folk School and
Jyväskylä Educational Consortium
•  Part of the SOMY we conduct a prediction report about internet and
schools in the year 2023
eDelfoi as a method
•  Our main method is the eDelfoi research tool, which is based on the
Delphi method
•  eDelfoi is a multi-purpose questionnaire for gathering a wide variety
of opinions concerning possible future paths relating to a desired
theme
•  The Delphi method itself is a systematic, interactive foresight
method which relies on a panel of anonymous, independent experts
as a form of collective intelligence
•  The main benefit of eDelfoi is that it produces probable and
innovative visions and various paths to the future including collective
evaluations regarding them
•  The eDelfoi tool was developed by Otava Folk High School and
Future Research Center of Turku School of Economics in Finland.

Goals of SOMY prediction research
• 

Our main research questions are:
–  1) What kind of pedagogical models are emerging with social media?
–  2) What benefits do social media bring to the quality of learning?

• 

Our eDelfoi research project is based on four sets of questions:

•  The current PISA measures quite traditional skills
•  The new PISA-type research is just a concept in our research – not
the fact
•  Experts predicted that measuring skills which are more complex
than existing PISA, like creative problem solving, the placement of
Finland might be much worse than the placement than in PISA 2013

Background of the SOMY project •  Finnish schools have introduced social media rapidly and widely during the past few years •  These pilots are steered by a national social media coordination project for Finnish general education, SOMY •  SOMY coordination is funded by the Finnish National Board of Education (FNBE) and carried out by Otava Folk School and Jyväskylä Educational Consortium •  Part of the SOMY we conduct a prediction report about internet and schools in the year 2023
  • 3. eDelfoi as a method •  Our main method is the eDelfoi research tool, which is based on the Delphi method •  eDelfoi is a multi-purpose questionnaire for gathering a wide variety of opinions concerning possible future paths relating to a desired theme •  The Delphi method itself is a systematic, interactive foresight method which relies on a panel of anonymous, independent experts as a form of collective intelligence •  The main benefit of eDelfoi is that it produces probable and innovative visions and various paths to the future including collective evaluations regarding them •  The eDelfoi tool was developed by Otava Folk High School and Future Research Center of Turku School of Economics in Finland.
