CBN disburses N228bn agric credit funds: The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has put the total amount disbursed to beneficiaries under the Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme (CACS) as at the end of Q1 2014 at N228.093 billion. The CACS was established to finance large ticket projects along the agriculture value chain. The scheme is being administered at a single digit rate of nine percent to beneficiaries for a period of seven years. Source: Thisday

Chams records 115% growth in profit after tax: Chams Plc, Nigeria’s identity management and payments transaction company, has announced its financial results for the year ended December 31, 2013, showing a growth of 115 percent in net profit. Net profit increased from N87.5 million to N188.5 million, while  earnings per share stood at  N0.07, more than twice what was recorded in the corresponding period. Source: Thisday

GTBank to grow market share in African expansion: Guaranty Trust Bank has disclosed that its target in the years ahead is to aggressively grow its market share in priority sectors. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, GTBank, Mr. Segun Agbaje, revealed that the bank is targeting a 20 percent growth in retail deposits to maintain low cost of funding, adding that it would invest in technology and electronic banking to drive its retail base. UBA triumphs over regulatory headwinds as FY13 earnings spike: United Bank for Africa PLC (UBA) which provides corporate, commercial, consumer and investment banking services has disclosed that for the year ended December 2013, gross earnings grew by 20.34 percent to N264.64 billion from N220.13 billion in the same period of the prior year. Profit before tax (PBT) rose slightly by 7.78 percent to N56.06 billion in 2013 compared to N52.01 billion as at 2012. Source: Businessday

Century Power to raise $700m for 1500MW power plant: Century Power Generation Limited, an indigenous energy company, plans to raise US$700 million to finance the first phase of a 1,500 megawatt (MW) power plant.  Chief Executive Officer of the company, Chukwueloka Umeh said Standard Chartered Plc, based in London, and Diamond Bank Plc, based in Lagos, will lead the financing process expected to be concluded by the end of this year. Otudeko’s $48m suit against Dangote stalled: The absence of a witness for the plaintiff yesterday stalled proceedings in a $48million land suit instituted by Oba Otudeko’s Honeywell Group against billionaire businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote. Otudeko, through his firm, Honeywell, sued the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Dangote Industries Ltd, Dangote and Greenview Development Ltd. He is urging the court to declare him the valid owner of a land measuring over 10.841 square metres at the Lagos Ports Complex, known as the Fifth Apapa Wharf Extension. Source: The Nation
