YOUR TEXAS AGRICULTURE MINUTE

Truth in agriculture? Ask a farmer!

By Gene Hall

Afraid of your food?

That’s what many corporations and organizations want. This unfounded controversy furthers their interest - greed, societal change or marketing.

Chipotle comes to mind as a company worth billions, trying to make billions more by slandering modern agriculture. General Mills claims Cheerios are GMO free when there are no genetically modified oats, the primary ingredient.

Consumers are fed a steady of diet of bad information. It’s a new age of communication where short, sharp and controversial is the message that sells.

For your next case of food fear, take a deep breath and consider the information. And if you still have concerns, go to the source.

Most farm and ranch families have grown food for generations. They don’t base decisions on fear and speculation, but on scientific fact.

The result—organic, natural, conventional or grown some other way—is safe and abundant food.

For truth in agriculture? Ask a farmer.

The preceding commentary is brought to you by Texas Farm Bureau, the “Voice of Texas Agriculture.” Called “Your Texas Agriculture Minute,” TFB will issue thought-provoking editorials each week—via print and audio—to spark understanding of agriculture in the Lone Star State and its impact on each and every Texan.
