Get Your Kitchen Ready For The Holidays

Keep your refrigerator clean and organized during the busy holiday season.

The holidays are right around the corner, and it’s time to get your kitchen ready for all the festivities.  Here are a few useful tips to help you prepare.

Organize And Restock

Why waste time looking for items? Organize your pantry or cabinets in food groups and most commonly used ingredients including spices. Restock anything that is low and missing. That way, you don’t have to run out to the store at the last minute.

Clean Clutter Off Countertops

Make sure your countertops are clutter free so that you have plenty of workspaces to keep things in order and running smoothly. Consider making space in kitchen drawers for small items that are frequently used and move bigger items to pantries, base cabinets or closets.

Sharpen Knives

Make sure your knives are sharp because blunt knives are more dangerous to use as more force is applied and you have less control. You can sharpen them yourself, or most hardware stores offer this service.

Disinfect Trash Cans

When the guests come over, you don’t want them to smell an odor.  After cleaning your trash cans use a disinfectant spray or even line them with a scented trash bag to eliminate any lingering odors.

Save Reusable Containers For Leftovers

There are always leftovers after a holiday dinner.  So save your yogurt containers or higher quality take-out containers and run them through the dishwasher. Send your guests home with plenty of delicious leftovers.

Check Your Small Appliances

In working your way through a recipe it’s a disaster to find that your blender, mixer or food processor is broken, missing a piece or acting crazy. Take out all the appliances you will be using and make sure you have all the accessories, and that they are working correctly. You don’t want to shop during the holiday rush for a missing part unexpectedly.

Some appliances to check are: food processor, blender, hand mixer and stand up mixer, electric knife, coffee maker and grinder, and toaster

Clean Your Fridge

Empty your fridge, pull out the drawers and shelves and give it a good soapy scrubbing. Check the expiration dates on products, throw them out, and replenish your fridge with items you will be using during the holiday season. Get the entire family working on getting the kitchen ready for the holidays.

Happy Holidays from our family to yours.
