Louise, CDL Scholarship Winner

At Collège du Léman we are committed to recognising academic excellence amongst our students. We are very excited to propose 4 High School Academic Scholarships for the school year 2020-2021. The winning students exhibit strong leadership skills, involvement in the school community, and demonstrate an outstanding level of academic performance.

We would like to celebrate one of last year’s winners, Louise Jones, for her steady engagement in all of her CDL activities and the impressive list of awards that she received. Louise is about to graduate from CDL High School. Congratulations Louise and best wishes for your next step at University!

"At the time of winning the scholarship I had completed the IGCSE (the International General Certificate of Secondary Education) the previous year and was taking 3 AP (Advanced Placement) classes, including the new AP Capstone Seminar class. I’d received high honours each marking period since my arrival at Collège du Léman in 6th grade, and had received 10 boarding academic awards. Since then I’ve taken an additional 6 AP classes, receiving high honours in the first two marking periods and the Boarding Academic Award in the first. 

At the time of winning the scholarship I was a Boarding House Representative for the third time, a member of the school charity MADS, had partaken in the Tanzania charity trip in Grade 9, and was a member of the National Honor Society (NHS). I had the chance to give weekly maths sessions tutoring a younger student. This past year I was also elected as Boarding Prefect, Boarding House Captain, and Secretary of the NHS. Furthermore, as a part of my NHS duty this year I tutored a student in English.

I have always had two principle interests: violin and horse riding. At the time of winning the scholarship I was taking private violin lessons, was a member of the school’s string ensemble, had played in numerous school concerts and open days, and passed the ABRSM grade 5 theory and practical exams (basically international music exams). As for my horse riding, I ride three times a week at the local stables, compete in local competitions, and occasionally help out by giving pony walks and lessons. I passed the brevet (basic horse riding) exam and have been translating the class when necessary since then. 

Applying for the scholarship was an invaluable experience. I was able to practice writing a letter of motivation and receiving an interview, both of which provided highly useful experience for my university applications. Finally, after winning the scholarship I applied to universities and was accepted into most of them. My current plan is to attend Imperial College London, studying medical biosciences."
