Cardi B to Tomi Lahren: ‘Leave me alone I will dog walk you’

Cardi B heads out to run errands in a wild purple outfit

One of the best things about 2019 so far is that Cardi B is really leaning into her new role as a political commentator. I remember reading a profile of Cardi last year or the year before, where she talked about how much she loved to study American history and the American presidency. Cardi is no dumb bunny, as much as people want to write her off because of her skin color, her sex, her body, and/or her colorful use of language. Cardi B votes, Cardi B cares about the state of this country, and Cardi B is going to share her motherf–king thoughts.

That’s what Cardi did last week, when she recorded an Instagram Story about the Trump Shutdown and mocked Trump and his “redneck” supporters. There were a lot of headlines about “Cardi B is the Democratic commentator we need right now,” so of course Terri Lowdown/Tawnky Loser had to chime in. Only Cardi shut down Torky in eight words:

Cardi wasn’t done there either. She made an appeal to her fans to watch the news and pay attention to what’s happening, posting this on her Instagram (I made some minor edits for readability):

Soo many people under my comments talking about I shouldn’t talk politics, I don’t know what I’m talking about , I’m dumb! Well I know a little something something..I know 800,000 federal government workers won’t be getting paid till the shutdown is over and government assistants program are shutdown as well as in NO WELFARE, NO WIC, SECTION 8. I know it’s a little boring to watch the news but it won’t kill ya to visit some IG pages of people that talk about what’s going on in our community like @shaunking @tamikadmallory and shiiieeett sometimes uncle snoop and Charlamgne be saying some sh-t that goes over ya heads. PAY ATTENTION !!! This can go on for months and it will affect our homes and Country.

[From Cardi’s Instagram]

This is so, so good. She also posted this stuff, a thank you to all of the pro-Cardi signage at the Women’s March, and a suggestion for all the Deplorables: “All you Trump supporters should work for free while the government is shut down to show your support.”

That was so funny seeing her clawback at Tammy Luggage. Good on her for speaking up and speaking facts!

    • Roux says:

I love her. She catches the world off guard, mostly because of the way that she talks but she’s knows her stuff and she’s using her voice. Nicki Minaj could learn a thing or two

      • Pandy says:

MOST celebrities could learn a thing or two from her! I love that she’s telling people to take a few minutes to pay attention and stay involved. Good messaging. And thanks for the dog walk translation lollll.

      • Mac says:

Cardi went from one of my favorite people to my absolute favorite. She has a voice and she is not afraid to use it. This is what political activism looks like.

    • AnnaKist says:

I’ve been chortling for five minutes about her “I will dog walk you” comment, even though I’m not entirely certain of the full/correct meaning. Will someone please explain? Australian here – I’ve never heard it before, but I bloody love it! 😂😂

  2. BlueSky says:

Nazi Barbie gets so triggered when a POC dares to use their platform (like she does) to voice their opinion.
And clearly what Cardi B said hit a nerve or else she would have ignored it, but useful idiot for the alt right has gotta earn her keep and get some traffic to her Twitter page.

    • whatWHAT? says:

yeah, what makes Trashcan Lannister any more qualified to comment on politics than Cardi?

  3. Aang says:

She is 100% correct. I’m a landlord and get about 25% of my rental income from section 8 vouchers. I’ll most likely not be paid in February. I won’t evict or ask my obviously struggling tenants to pay out of their own pockets because although this will hurt, especially with two tuition payments due this month, I don’t “need” the money and they can’t make ends meet without it. I called my reps and let them know that although I’m hurt by the shutdown I still say NO wall.

  4. Lizzie says:

at this point, i’m not against violence against right wing aggressors and i would pay upwards of $10,000 to see clear video of cardi ripping the country fried extensions out of her empty head one by one.

  5. Tanguerita says:

Never ever will i utter a bad word against Cardi again. She has a better grasp of reality than most so-called politicians.

    • hunter says:

it’s astonishing but it appears to be true.

I have converted from not liking her at all and thinking she is trash to being impressed by her grasp of the issues and ability to bang out such hilarious commentary.

      I salute Cardi B!

  6. Sash says:

Tammy Lanyard brought about those white woman tears real quick when Cardi punched back. The audacity…

    • Veronica S. says:

“White woman tears” is referring to a very specific way that white women utilize patriarchy to promote racism while simultaneously protecting themselves from repercussions through sympathetic appeal of female vulnerability. Since black and brown women aren’t given the same social value and often dehumanized, their pain is not given the same resonance. It’s not really comparable to suggest criticizing this tendency is the same as racial prejudice. The behavior harms non-whites with no equivalent exchange toward whites themselves.

      • Anna says:

Thank you for your patience in explaining this terminology. Lord knows they have google but you are more of a saint than I.

    • whatWHAT? says:

as one of my faves says, it’s the audacity of caucasity.

  7. manda says:

I just LOVE her so much. Gosh I wish she was my friend

  8. Nev says:

    Bahahahahaha love it.

  9. cannibell says:

Respect to her for using her platform to stand up for those federal workers and what’s right. I can’t say I’ll never utter a bad word against her again (you’re a better woman than I, @Tanguerita)), because I call ’em as I see ’em, but it sure won’t be for this!

  10. TheOriginalMia says:

Cardi didn’t have to do Tamika like that. I’m sure Tonka was hoping to get a profanity-laced response to take back to her followers, instead she got her extensions snapped and a reasonable response to her idiocy.

  11. Elisabeth Smith says:

    “I will dog walk you”

I want to say this forever and ever

  12. Notyouraveragehousewife says:

I’m not a Cardi fan or a hater either. Just neutral. I have to say that she may not appear to be booksmart at times but she is not one to mess with. She will drag you with the best of them in her own way. She doesn’t seem like the type to back down and I respect that. I’m glad that she’s not letting women like this intimidate her.

    • Raina says:

      My advice to Cardi:
      1) NEVER give this bitch the time of day again after the Mic drop.
      2) Buy a dog, name it Tomi, get photographed as you’re walking her.
Maybe the dog will be raised better than that trick was.

Lol, ‘memba when Tomi, whatever this bitch’s name is, didn’t know she had Obama care?
      And insulted it??

Forget walking this idiot; you’d likely have to carry her.
Send her some Alpo with a collar and call it a day.

  13. Esmom says:

The most frustrating comments to Cardi B were along the lines of “you’re rich, this shutdown doesn’t affect you.” These MAGAts have zero empathy. This is why we’re so f%^&ed up as a country.

    • BlueSky says:

Did you see her snap back at one commenter when he asked if she was going to pay for his insurance and can he pick his own doctor?
“Im paying about 4 million in taxes this year so most likely I am Paying for your insurance ….That’s if your favorite president don’t take my tax money for his wall Mr white bread .”

  14. Helen says:

delightful, spectacular response from cardi 🤗🤗

  15. Idiotsgalore says:

I don’t know exactly what “dog walk you” means but I’m here for it! 🙌🏻

  16. Dr Mrs The Monarch says:

I love seeing all the butchery of Tammy Lanazi’s name. You can’t be infamous if nobody knows your name.

  17. Veronica S. says:

Cardi B is an excellent example of how POC voices are silenced through tone policing and elitism, to be honest. There’s a careful line you have to tread in not giving uneducated opinions too much weight versus recognizing a valid social experience, even if it’s not academically articulated.

  18. Katie Keen says:

Has anyone seen pics of Tomi lately? Girl is losing her looks FAST.

    Sorry, not sorry.

  19. me says:

I don’t feel sorry for the government workers that voted for Trump. They did this to themselves. I do, however, feel sorry for the ones that didn’t vote for Trump…they don’t deserve this. What is shocking is just how many government workers live paycheck to paycheck. I saw a number of news stories of government workers who just had babies and are now struggling to buy diapers. Shouldn’t you make sure you have some savings in the bank before having a child? I just don’t get it. People need to learn to save money. Living paycheck to paycheck is not the way to be. Live within your means. Either way, this strike needs to be over, because once again, this isn’t fair for the workers that didn’t vote for that piece of sh*t.

    • Jamie says:

Are you seriously victim-blaming federal workers??

      • me says:

I am blaming THOSE that voted for Trump. But this should be a lesson to all to try not to live paycheck to paycheck as you never know when you could lose your job. They teach this in economics 101. The news story was about how so many Americans live this way and it’s not good.

    • Jerusha says:

There are many reasons for living paycheck to paycheck. This article offers a good explanation for many of them, including low wages and the near death of unions. Sometimes it is bad decisions and economic illiteracy, but not always.

      • Person3514 says:

I love when people say that people should just save money and have a savings. My husband and I both work. We have 2 kids and we get a check every week. After paying bills we’re lucky if we have even $40 left until the next check. I guess we could save that $40, but wouldn’t you know some shit always comes up and there it goes. I have $16.28 until Friday. I’d be better off pulling my son out of daycare and staying home with him, getting food stamps than I am while working. It doesn’t pay to work. I’m struggling more now than I ever did when I was a stay at home mom. I’ve been trying to get a better job, but I can’t seem to get an office job. Only retail or other bull. I’m working as a housekeeper in a hospital right now. I get paid a whopping $8.63 an hour to clean blood, shit and piss. I have to clean blood that is infected with hiv, mrsa and other things. $8.63. This Saturday I’m taking the cpc coding exam so I can begin getting certified to become a medical coder. I spent my tax money last year on the course. I’m lucky I was able to do that. Some people don’t have any other options and are stuck in the cycle I’m in right now. Sometimes it’s just not possible to save.

      • me says:

        @ Person3514

Hey I totally get that. First, the minimum wage rate should be higher. Also, the government should help subsidize child care. This is why voting is so important. It is unfair how expensive child care is…absolutely insane. Yes, sometimes it’s better to not work and stay home than pay for child care. That is a legit concern for many. The problem is the current government could care less and the president would rather spend billions on a f*cking wall because of unclaimed “fears” than put money where it’s really needed. I hope the best for you and good luck with your exam.

      • Kitten says:

“I get paid a whopping $8.63 an hour to clean blood, shit and piss.”

        I can’t even. This f*cking country SMDH.

MANY people live paycheck-to-paycheck. I know that my paramedic BF does. Saving lives doesn’t pay much, unfortunately.

    • Veronica S. says:

It’s not just government workers. Most adults in the United States (close to 80%, actually) are living paycheck to paycheck. We tend to think of financial instability within working class or poor terms, but the reality is that the majority cannot afford to go months without being paid. Mortgages/rent, utilities, school loans, car payments, children, etc. – these are all things that require consistent payments with harshly interlinked consequences if any of them falls behind. (How do you keep a job if your car gets repossessed? Where do you go if you get evicted? What happens if your credit goes to shit and you work in an industry that requires high ratings – like most government workers?) Affordable housing in the United States has fallen to under 10%. That alone is eating up people’s incomes like crazy. You may have a savings account, but unless you’ve got thousands upon thousands of dollars in there, how long can it last?

I just had to deal with a pay screw up through my job that left me without pay for more than four weeks. I’m fortunate to work a second job and had a decent amount of savings – but dealing with the screw up completely wiped out my backup finds. It ate up all of the money from my second job. It answered the question of how long I can survive without pay, and the answer is one month. That’s it. That’s all I had available. If I had to go another month without it, I’d have to pick and choose bills to pay or load up my credit cards. And after that..then what? I’d be in trouble. And I only have *me* to take care of. My rent is extremely low compared to most people because I live with friends. My school loans are relatively low, and my repayments are manageable. And STILL – one month. That’s all I had. And this took place after Christmas, the time of year when people are usually strapped for cash more than any other time. The only people who can afford to not work or work without pay are the people who have always had that privilege – the ultra wealthy.

      • me says:

Hey I definitely agree with you. I was just stating what the news story said. The sad truth is many Americans live paycheck to paycheck without even thinking they could easily lose their jobs. It’s a stressful way to live and the American government doesn’t seem to give a sh*t. We, at the end of the day, are responsible for ourselves though. Ultimately, the truth is those that voted for Trump have zero sympathy from me. They voted for a monster. The ones who didn’t vote for him don’t deserve to go through this.

      • Castle Toz says:

No one deserves to go through this. Period. Our leaders have failed us and if we think that there’s anyone on a white horse coming in to save us from the current state, we’re dead wrong.

      • me says:

        @ Castle Toz

Americans are stuck in the mess until at least 2020…and if Trump gets re-elected, so help us all. The truth is the reason America is in this state is because people voted for Trump. Plain and simple.

      • Veronica S. says:

I understand your position, but what’s the alternative? Putting off life indefinitely? Not having children unless you’re rich? The problem is America, it’s debt-laden structure intended to keep everybody but the wealthiest locked into the system, the utter lack of social supports. Other countries have child care services, unemployment pay, maternity leave, nationalized healthcare, etc. – all of these things create a safety net to avoid the crises faced by American families during periods of lacking. The problem is by design.

      • me says:

        @ Veronica S.

Other countries have those things because people voted for the RIGHT leaders. It’s too late with the Trump administration…but hopefully for the next election people will really research the candidates and vote for the ones that actually have a track record for making positive changes.

      • Anna says:

@me Yes but your wording was accusatory toward the victims of a fucked up system. Try to understand what’s going on here before you make statements that lay the blame on the vast majority of Americans who are actually struggling every day to make ends meet.

    • Doodle says:

Sometimes it’s just impossible though, even though you try. I’ve been there, as a single person working her ass off at companies that kept downsizing. Every time I started getting ahead I’d have to go on unemployment and would be back at ground zero. It’s not a black and white issue. Add to that an unplanned pregnancy and that you aren’t allowed to terminate and now you’re screwed.

      • dahlia6 says:

My resume is a disaster because of this very thing. You get a decent job, and then, three months later, oh, hey, we’re letting you go. I have the absolute worst luck with this. I once passed up an amazing job to take another one that I thought would be more secure. “We’re here for the long haul!” they said, and they were the largest employer in the county. So I signed up. Three weeks into training they said “Oh, hey, we’re shutting this branch down but we’ll pay you to uproot everything and move to Texas if you want!” Like I could just pack up and leave my family (where I was a caregiver to my mother) and everything behind to go somewhere with no guarantee they wouldn’t pull the same crap once I picked up sticks and moved there too! Plus, by the time I found this out, the other, better paying job, was already taken by someone else. I scrape by now but its a nightmare. The job market in Appalachia is ridiculous and even more so if you’re a woman.

    • Goofpuff says:

Most of America lives paycheck to paycheck (ie the farmers in Trump country looking for a hand out but you don’t hear the right complain about that 12 billion welfare check) so I find your words not empathetic. Babies are expensive and missing paychecks will quickly deplete your savings because bills don’t stop and emergencies happen (my car had. 2k bill just recently, my kids had doctor bills fr being sick). Most government workers do not get paid that much. And even in shutdown we are very limited in the work we are allowed to take. I know, I am trying to get legal approval right now just to do a substitute teaching job while not getting paid.

      • me says:

Hey I hope things work out for you. I also saw a news story of a government worker trying to apply for Unemployment Benefits but was told she’d have to wait a month to get any sort of response ! That is just insane.

    • Onemoretime says:

@ME please tell me how it is possible not to live paycheck to paycheck when federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour . Please tell me how after rent, utilities, car expenses, food that you can save. I make way more that that and the only way I can manage to save anything is with my 401K and that is mandatorily taken out because my employer got rid of our pensions.
It’s not about living above your means it’s about living with the basics.
While congress gives itself raise after raise for doing absolutely nothing, these folks are struggling with no income coming in. I’m sure that fat organge clown will get his payment from Putin, probably a bonus for causing chaos.

      • me says:

I know it’s not easy. I was just stating what the news story was talking about. Obviously the minimum wage should be increased. The government should offer more help to those that need it…of course. The problem is when idiots vote based on HATE and FEAR…you get what we now have in the White House. These people didn’t care about what Trump said about immigrants, black people, or women. They thought Trump’s decisions wouldn’t affect them personally but with the shutdown they clearly see Trump’s actions affect ALL negatively. Next time, let’s hope these people vote for someone who actually cares about ALL Americans.

      • Anna says:

@me Let’s be clear: 96% percent (and probably more) of BLACK WOMEN voted against this evil clown. The elections were clearly hacked. It’s still going on and will for quite some time given the gains achieved by the evil party and Dems inability to effect a foothold (other than Congress which is significant now). Understand, @me , that many people are suffering who did NOT vote for this evil, but systemic WHITE SUPREMACY is what this country is founded on, quite plainly it is on genocide, blood, and chattel slavery, and slavery that continues to this day. People who voted for 45 didn’t do it through lack of care for BIPOC; they did it SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE they are racist (and this is all levels of society, not just so-called “rednecks” but many wealthy white people who voted to maintain status quo and keep their power/white privilege). They will never vote for someone who “cares about all Americans” because they vote for whoever will support their racism and white power. End of story.

    • Amy Too says:

Living within your means is technically living paycheck to paycheck. They’re not spending more than they have. And I’m sure some of these people have savings, maybe very small savings accounts, but ANYTHING can drain them. A popped tire on your car? I just paid $500+ for two front tires and I bought cheap ones. A cavity filling? Any other unexpected medical cost? A burst pipe? A new furnace or water heater? Hell, even getting your furnace or water heater serviced. A vet bill? Literally ANYTHING can happen and set these people over the edge financially. When a lot of the population is making the same amount of money that people made in the 1970s but still having to pay today’s prices for gas, rent, mortgage, insurance, car payment, groceries, electric/gas/water/phone/internet bill, there is really not much you can do. In order to trying live within their means AND have money left over to keep sufficient savings, a lot of people would have to live in homeless shelters, walk or bus to work, get all their groceries from the food bank, and never celebrate a birthday or Christmas. That’s cruel. I can absolutely see how so many people live paycheck to paycheck with nothing left to fall back on in an emergency. My husband I both work, we have decent health and dental insurance through his work so we’re not paying much in medical bills, we drive cars that are 12 and 18 years old, we have only one child, we clip coupons and buy things on sale, I haven’t bought new clothes or even a new bra in YEARS, and we just recently (despite being in our mid thirties) financed an $80,000 home on the “bad side” of town because it’s what we could afford. We don’t have extra money for an emergency. We don’t have money put away for our son’s college. We ARE “living within our means” and we are POOR.

      • me says:

Living above one’s means is way too common now a days. People want the latest iphones and the latest designer clothes but don’t bother to save any money for rainy days. Hey I don’t celebrate birthdays or Christmas. I’ve had the same bra for years as well. We do what we gotta do. Also, you certainly aren’t “poor”. If you have a roof over your head and food on the table and an income, you can’t call yourself poor. I have been to third world countries and seen actual poverty. I think you are doing the best you can and you should be proud of yourself for the things you have in life. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

    • Amy Too says:

“Shouldn’t you try to have some savings before you have a child?” Not all children are planned. Sometimes it comes down to not being able to afford an abortion. Sometimes you can’t afford to go to the doctor for birth control pills. Sometimes condoms break. Whatever. And even in cases where it’s less dire, are only rich people with a certain amount of savings allowed to have children? Are only rich people allowed to have sex (even within a relationship or marriage) because it might lead to a child one doesn’t have the correct amount of savings to justify? How cruel is that?

      • me says:

You should really read all my comments on this thread before replying. The news story wasn’t talking about “unplanned pregnancies”. Of course those that want children should be allowed to have them. But the truth is, you should be prepared for the cost of having a child. It’s cruel to the child if you don’t have money for even diapers or baby food isn’t it? Oh and trust me there are rich people who certainly should not have children because they don’t even bother raising them properly.

    • Hotsauceinmybag says:

You’re painting the paycheck to paycheck situation with a very broad brush, using what seems like a very strict set of rules (and don’t worry I went through your comments down thread before posting) that don’t seem to take hmmm, Idk, life into account? Seems like you’re being quite judgy to me without having the facts.

      • me says:

Once again, I was simply talking about a news story I saw that spoke about how many Americans are living check to check. Obviously everyone has different circumstances. I just think people need to be more responsible. Please don’t bring a child in to this world if you can’t even feed yourself. Why make that child suffer? If you had a neighbor that kept having kids but didn’t bother to feed or clothe them properly, would you just shrug your shoulders and not give a damn? I am sure you’d be wondering why they keep having kids when they can’t afford it. Does that make you “judgy”?

  23. Janet says:

I am very confused about the posters who have say that the living paycheque to paycheque is because of Trump. Are you saying that before Trump came into years ago no one lived paycheque to paycheque that everything was wonderful and everybody had money and there were no concerns? As for the Twitter feud I don’t think anyone really won this one. However I did learn what it means “I will dog walk you”. Didn’t know that before. Good grief the level at which discourse in the US is at is just unbelievable and please don’t blame trump for other people’s actions. That’s mijexsaying he made me do it and it just doesn’t wash.

    • me says:

I don’t know if you’re talking about my comments, but mine were about the government workers that aren’t getting paid. That is a DIRECT result of Trump. He caused that and so did the people who voted for him. There is no denying it. This is not about those in the general public that live check to check year to year.

  24. Mali says:

Where I live it’s affecting the local economy. People who work for the govt. are not able to shop or eat out so the businesses are suffering. A lot of people in this area are poor so food stamps is sometimes the only way to buy meat and the local wic program is used by the parents. We live in a rural area so it’s mostly govt. workers and border patrol. After February a lot of people are going to be struggling and I won’t be surprised if at some point people start starving. We have a food bank and I worry if at some point it’s gonna have enough for everyone. I keep seeing how bad it is to live paycheck to paycheck but bills amount to a lot and the system has it set up to where you can live better on govt. assistance than having a job. The other side of this is We are fighting against a system to where it’s engrained in the American persona to vote for the most popular person rather than the most suitable aka trump.

  25. Raina says:

I read so many funny variations of this dumb girl’s name and I really enjoy it. She’s such a clueless bully that I don’t care.
Usually, I kind of enjoy names and I’m not one for making fun of people…but…in Dummi Lowlife’s case, I’ll make an exception.
