Out Today by The Orchard: Diet Cig, Lou Canon & More

Out Today by The Orchard: Diet Cig, Lou Canon & MoreHello everybody, I hope your weeks are wrapping up nicely. The Orchard office is buzzing today with some big releases and premieres. As always, I’m here to share some of our most exciting new digs with you. This week, we have debut records from Diet Cig and Lou Canon as well as the theatrical premiere of our much anticipated film All These Sleepless Nights.

If you’ve attended SXSW the past couple of years or hit NYC for the fleeting days of CMJ, you’re familiar with the name Diet Cig. With back to back double-digit years of live shows in Austin, you’ve likely seen them play as well. After months and months of buzz, today marks the release of the band’s ambitious debut LP Swear I’m Good At This. With twelve tracks of beyond empowering indie pop punk, SIGAT feels like a 28 minute anthem for every young girl that’s ever picked up a guitar. Singer Alex Luciano’s open book lyricism gives honest insight to what it feels like entering a genre heavily dominated by dudes (and totally owning it). Watch the “Tummy Ache” video below, give the album a first listen with NPR and make it yours here.

Next up on Out Now, we have another debut from Paper Bag Records’ Lou Canon with Suspicious. Dark, atmospheric and intimate, Canon’s premiere feels like an out of body experience or hazy reflection of a dream. Swirling synths and bending percussion give Suspicious a smooth texture and mysterious timbre that holds throughout. It’s a bold first release that establishes a cohesive set of thought-provoking sonic themes with every song. Stream or download it here and check out the moving video for “Coma” below.

This week also marks the Los Angeles premiere of the highly anticipated All These Sleepless Nightsa coming of age film that chronicles the memories of two Polish twenty-somethings named Kris and Michal in Warsaw. In a film that often feels like a documentary, All these Sleepless Nights traces the story of kids figuring out themselves and the turbulent relationships they’re in through nights and days of drugs, sex and music. Directed by Michal Marczak, the movie also earned the 2016 Sundance Film Festival Direction Award. Watch the trailer below and catch the movie in LA this weekend, NYC next weekend and nationwide later on in April/May. Find tickets here.
