High School Graduate College Application Requirements Checklist

You are ready to receive your high school diploma and are now going to apply for college.  Here is a checklist of the most common college application requirenments.
  1. College application:  Each school have their own application.  Make sure that the application is readable, is fully completed (do not leave blank spaces).  Make sure to double check:  spell check, grammar errors etc.
  2. Official High School Transcripts:  Make sure to order your transcripts in advance so you have them available to send them along with your full applation packet.
  3. Official SAT/ACT test scores.  Its best to order these in advance.
  4. Essay:  This is very important!  This is your introdution to the admissions department.  Candidates are screened in several ways: 1.  The content of the essay, what kind of student your are, what activities were you involved in? Were you involved with the community.  2.  They will also pay attention on how you express yourself, the grammar, spelling, organization.  3.  They will also score your essay on how well you follow instructions.  Each school ask specific questions that they want you to answer.  They will also have formatting criteria.
  5. Secondary School Report:  This report is a form that needs to filled by your guidance counselor.  Make sure to make an appointment with the counselor to make sure they fill this out.  Its good sometimes to remind them.  Remember you are not the only student graduating and applying for college.
  6. Letters of recomendation:  1.  Teacher recommendations:  make sure to request them with plenty of time.  Rember that they are still responsible for their classes and other students may have asked them for a recommendation too.  2.  From other people such as your boss or community leader.  Again give them plenty of advance time for them to write it.  Make sure to give them specific instructions on what you want them to focus on and who to address the letter to.
  7. Supplementa Forms:  There are several areas of study that require additional forms or even packets.  Example some art programs may ask for a portfolion of previous work completed.
Remember to give yourself plenty of time to accomplish everything.  Keep checking on the school website for deadlines.
