Just yesterday, officials at Tyson Foods in Springdale, AR issued a recall for over 130,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets. According to the company, several customers called them complaining about the presence of plastic pieces they found in the food. However, there were no injuries.

Tyson then tested its products and confirmed that plastic shards ranging in sizes up to 21mm long and 6.5mm diameter were present in select bags of Tyson Fully-Cooked Panko Chicken Nuggets. The company believes that the pieces came off of a “hard plastic rod used to connect a plastic transfer belt” during production.

While this recall affects some 132,520 pounds of chicken with nationwide distribution, the products appeared only in Costco stores. Here are the details:

Product name: Tyson Fully-Cooked Panko Chicken Nuggets

Size: 5 lb. bag (frozen)

Item Number:  23575-928

UPC Code: 0-237000-3558-5

“Best if used by” Date: July 18, 2017

In addition to these retail chicken nuggets, this recall also affects select cases of Spare Time brand cooked nugget-shaped chicken breast pattie fritters with rib meat. Tyson shipped these chicken products to a single wholesale retailer in Pennsylvania.

What to Do with Recalled Chicken Nuggets

This is a voluntary Class I recall according to the FDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). That means that Tyson is simply recalling the nuggets out of an abundance of caution, though ingesting them can lead to “serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

As a result, Tyson asks consumers to discard any nuggets in their homes or return them to the place of purchase. Alternately, customers can cut off the UPC code and mail it directly to the company for a full refund. The address for this is:
