Lyv wants a life far removed from her dysfunctional family and the diner they own, especially now that Ten, her best friend and lifeline to normality, is spending a semester in Europe.

I read the blurb on this one and still couldn't figure out what to expect other than a gal had a huge choice between the guy who was her best friend from childhood and the bad boy rocker that swept her off her feet. But it is part of the Red Hot Lovers box set I am slowly making my way through and I'm determined to read each story by new to me authors. I dove right in and enjoyed that feeling of not knowing what to expect until I was already reading. And...I couldn't stop reading. I ended up finishing it in one afternoon.

The story is set in the New York of the late 70's to early 80's. Interesting times.
The author's writing style took a bit for me to get used to, but I liked it. There is a bittersweet flavor from start to finish, sorrow, moments of happiness, passion, and hope. It is the story of people who live on the edge, but want the same things everyone else wants. Glad to get it and I'm eager to pick up more by the author.

Lyv is just eighteen and her life by all appearances is miserable. She lives with a mother who hates her and abuses her just short of what will bring the authorities out. Lyv goes to school and works the family diner while counting down the days until she can leave. Her only bright spot is Ten, her best friend, and one of the wealthy Clarks. Ten has an awful mother, too, so he understands Lyv completely.

One night, Lyv's world is rocked when she encounters up and coming rock sensation, Xander. She is taken by him immediately just as he is by her. Ten helps her so that she can spend time with Xander. Xander has to leave on his first tour soon, but promises to come back to her. Unfortunately, the unexpected happens and things don't go as planned. Lyv's life is forever changed and goes in a new direction. Later, Lyv is forced to make a decision and it is one that isn't easy, but it will hopefully be for her own happiness, finally.

The story is told entirely from Lyv's perspective. She is a young girl who has no knowledge of the physical side of things between a man and woman even though she is worldly-wise when it comes to looking after herself and knowing she's on her own. There is that 'see a stranger across the room and falling instantly' bit. Not my thing, but because I was vested in the story I set it aside and kept reading. Lyv learns the hard way about things and I do mean the hard way.

She is surrounded by an eclectic band of characters. It is rather avant-garde with Ten being bi-sexual, his cousin is in a menage, her boss and co-workers are the flaming gay sorts, and then Ten likes to dominate in the bedroom. Lyv has three roommates when she lives in NYC and they are male. She makes a family of her own out of this band including her bad boy rocker who is out on tour becoming famous.

It's not a deep story or romance so much as its a journey of a young girl becoming a woman and growing up to choose what she really needs and not just wants. It had a different feel to it that blended grit with fairy tale or maybe it's just a darker fairy tale. Regardless, it's one I would recommend for those who want something a little different in a coming of age story and romance.

My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this story in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book in the RED HOT LOVERS ANTHOLOGY.

Lyv had a hard childhood. Her mother is horrific and not a parent figure at all. She only has her best friend, Ten and he's one she can rely on. But when she meets Xander things change, but is it a good thing?

You will love and enjoy both men she has in her life. Both are protective and truly want her...... who/what will she choose?

This story was saddening, happy and hopeful. My heart hurt for the characters. There were times I wished they could have done things differently.. and there were somethings I wondered about that weren't discussed.

Overall, "Ripped" is story about realizing truths, revelations, friendships and more....

3.5 stars from me.

Got to page 16 and was like. "I'm out!"

The story is weak and there is no build up of any kind. It's very much an 'insta-love' thing going on.
The girl is annoying and the writing seems "green."

Really upset that I wasted my money on it.

When it came time for me to write this review I was not sure what to write. I just could not get my thoughts to sound right in the written word and I agonized over this for sometime. You may think that I was having problems because the story was bad, but this was not the case. I think it was just a case of believing that I could not write a review that would be able to this book justice. Well I eventually got over my angst and wrote my review. Here are my thoughts on Ripped by Olivia Rigal.

In Ripped we meet Lyv a high school student whose life was not abounding in love. Her mother is verbally and emotional abusive and her father is weak and could stand up to his wife’s mean attitude. There is definitely no love between Lyv and her parents. At first I was a bit taken a back when Lyv referred to her mother as the bitch but as the story progressed it became clear that she is quite deserving of that name. Lyv’s mother made her feel like she was less of a person. It was this feeling of inadequacy that led to her forging a bond with Terrence Charles Clarke (Ten). Lyv’s friendship with Ten was what helped her to keep sane. I believe that because Ten was able to relate to what Lyv was going through helped to cement their friendship.

One day while Ten and Lyv were at a concert she met Alexander. They hit it off instantly and eventually a relationship was forged between them.

I thought Lyv was strong in light of all that she has endured; however there were moments that she made me want to hit her over the head. I just could not believe she would make the same mistake twice. I was able to relate to Lyv’s character and I could feel all the hurt that she has endured.

I found Ten to be compassionate and supportive especially where Lyv is concerned. Initially I had liked Alexander but as the story progresses I saw him as being immature and selfish.

Ripped by Olivia Rigal is a beautiful story of unconditional love. This is my first encounter with the author so I was not sure what to expect, however based on the blurb I figured that this would be a story worth every waking moment spent reading it and boy was I right in my assumptions. From the very first page I realize that Ripped was going to be a riveting read. I was pulled into the story and I could not wait to see what was coming next. While reading I experienced an array of emotions as there were moments of anger, sorrow and joy.

I can’t go into much detail without giving away too much of the story so you will just have to get yourself a copy to find out all that has happened. The most I can say is that if you enjoy stories that will inspire you, make you laugh, make you cry then Ripped is the book for you.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Lyv is a teenager from the wrong side of the tracks, dealing with an overbearing mother who looks for any excuse to make her daughter’s life a living hell. Despite her age, Lyv possesses a maturity to know what she wants out of life and is determined to find her place in the world. When the unthinkable happens and she finds herself wrenched from those few people she loves and trusts, she must put her life back together and figure out where her real priorities lie.

Alexander is a rock singer on the verge of hitting the big time. When he and Lyv meet at a club, there is an instant attraction and the two begin a brief courtship. Alexander leaves to go on tour and Lyv goes missing, can love win out when it seems that everything is working against them? How will Xander, as he’s known on stage, react once he finds out the cause of Lyv’s disappearance?

Ten, Lyv’s best friend, comes from money and privilege; he and Lyv make a very unlikely pair, but it is with Ten’s help that Lyv is able to get back on her feet once she makes her way back to New York. But when Xander has trouble coming to grips with the domestic lifestyle that Lyv is craving, Ten has a proposal that Lyv couldn’t possibly refuse.

Lyv is so desperate for love and positive attention that when Alexander walks into her life, she is quickly smitten, despite the lack of guarantees that come with rising rock star lifestyle. On the other hand, she has Ten, the best friend that has been her shoulder to lean on when it came to her mother, as well as the ups and downs of her brief relationship with Xander. Is there more to the relationship between Lyv and Ten than they are willing to admit, or even understand?

Ripped is a fast, easy, well-written read that can easily be devoured in one sitting. Ms. Rigal has crafted complex characters with relationships that are woven in intricate patterns. The story is heartbreaking, yet inspires so much hope. It is not your typical rock star romance by any means, it is much more than that. My only knock on the book is that I wanted more, it seems that there is so much more that could have been exploration into the story, simply because of the complexity of the characters and the storyline itself.

Lyv and Ten have grown up together, offering one another support, friendship and the love that each of them crave but have never received from their families. When Lyv meets Alexander, Ten is happy that Lyv has found someone that loves her and makes her happy. Lyv knows that Alexander’s music is going to take him from her, but they cherish the time they have together before he has to leave on tour. When Lyv learns she is pregnant and both Alexander and Ten, who is studying abroad for a semester, are not available to help, she must forge ahead with all that is thrown at her…and let me tell you there is a lot thrown at her!

I really enjoyed this book and was drawn into the relationship that Lyv and Ten shared. It’s not often in life that you meet someone who you know will be there for you no matter what, and the depth of Lyv and Ten’s relationship was portrayed in such a way that you could feel the bond that existed between them. I was so thrilled for Lyv when she met Alexander – she was finally able to see her true beauty through his eyes, which helped her begin to heal some of the scars that had been created by the abuse she suffered at home from her mother. Lyv was a very strong character and it was wonderful watching her find her strength and see her self-worth.

I don’t want to say too much more about the book since anything more will be a spoiler, but I loved the emotions that I felt while reading Lyv’s story and the depth of the characters. I especially loved Ten and just how much he truly loved Lyv and wanted nothing more than for her to be happy – he was definitely swoon-worthy! The other thing about this book that I enjoyed was that it took place in the past – the book starts in 1978. This definitely impacted the plot and storyline, and it was refreshing to read a story where cell phones and computers were not a factor!

Although this book isn’t a cliffhanger, there are several things that are left open that will hopefully be brought to closure in the next book in this series. This was a great read that had me hooked from the first chapter and kept me turning pages all night!

Ripped

Olivia Rigal

I was gifted this story in exchange for an honest review by We Love Kink.

This story will pull on your heart strings as Lyv grows up and learns some really hard lessons. The first part takes place in 1978 and gives some background story for Lyv and her best friend Ten. He was from a rich family in the Hamptons and Lyv’s mom always lets her hang out with him because of his familial connections. Other than that her mother is very strict. These two are best friends, more like siblings and spend vast amounts of time together. In one gathering she is introduced to Alexander and she experiences her first crush, her first kiss and then some more firsts as well. This relationship creates on dilemma after another and puts into motions events that will be long lasting and certainly life changing, not only for Lyv but her family as well.

Alexander is in a band and leaves to go on tour leaving a heartbroken Lyv behind. Being the popoluar rock star that his in and in typical young male fashion he does not call or write but expects her to be waiting when he returns. They do manage to spend time together until again he leaves on tour and leaves her behind.

Thank God for Ten, he is there to pick up the pieces and be a true friend to her. He holds her hand and her heart as together they decide on the best course of action.

Even though this story was set back in the late 1970’s the story it told was still very powerful, the crisis’s that Lyv faced could easily be faced by a teenager today and the way that her parent’s dealt with it was certainly heartbreaking and anger inspiring. This young girl puts so much hope and love into her relationships with both Alex and Ten, she is wise and strong beyond her years. She grows up so very fast after being torn apart by what she experiences. Ten is a amazing person to be there for you.

I would recommend this story to all age groups as it will touch everyone. Make sure that you have Kleenex ready as it is certainly a heart tugger. It makes you appreciate both your parents and your children. I would rate it a 5/5. Olivia Rigal certainly has a very powerful way with words.

I loved, loved, LOVED this story! The way that Lyv's love story developed was phenomenal. She is torn between two lovers, Ten and Alex who, strangely enough, start out as friends. The three become involved in passionate relationships that leave them hurting, but are able to find comfort and love in the end. Lyv is such a strong and resilient character as she works towards independence, finding herself and choosing her perfect match. Wow, just... wow. The family dynamics that influenced Alex, Ten and Lyv were heart wrenching, each in their own complicated way.... it's such a sad world we live in sometimes. The supporting characters, that include friends, family and outside love interests, are dynamically developed; I especially loved the triad of Jimmy, Steven and Laura.

With so many intense situations including a kidnapping, teen pregnancy in the 1970's, abortion vs. adoption, and lots of sexual exploration, this is a story that touches on a lot of deeply emotional topics. The twist and turns of the storyline kept me guessing from start to finish, at times I thought I would lose my mind wondering what was going to happen next. I just couldn't read fast enough! Even though it is a happy-for-now and leaves lots of questions unanswered I loved the ending too. There is a pretty powerful quote that sums up the whole book perfectly... but I'll let readers discover that on their own!

A well written, dramatic, fast paced, and sometimes controversial story. This is powerfully emotional and will stay with readers long after the final page. Due to graphic sexual scenes and intense themes that may be disturbing to some readers, I would not recommend it for anyone under the age of 18.

I received and ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review, so here it is. Lyv is living in hell except when she is with Ten, he is her best friend and they help each other stay grounded. Lyv is still in high school and Ten is in college and when they can, they are always together. Her mother is happy with her spending time with Ten, his family is very wealthy. Ten takes her to a club and she sees the Greek god by the dance floor and she freezes. He looks a lot like Ten but the eyes are different. When the god walks over she is speechless. His name is Alexander and Lyv is in love or lust. When he leaves her and Ten at the table, Alexander goes on stage, he is the lead singer of one of the bands. When the y leave, she thinks that she will never see Alexander again. She goes back home, back to work at the diner her parents own. One day she walks into the diner and Ten is there and so is Alexander. The sparks are back between them. When things happen between Lyv and Alexander, he leaves to go on tour for a year and her mom sends her away. When she returns to Ten, he is so happy to have her back. But she hasn't heard from Alexander on over a year. Can she move on without him? What will happen with Ten? Will Lyv get her happily ever after? This is a great story and I loved it. This is a first for me by Olivia Rigal and I am looking forward to reading more from her.

Lyv has had a terrible childhood at the hands of her alcoholic and cruel mother. She can't wait until she graduates high school, and can get away from her and start to live life on her terms. Her only respite is Ten, the boy that has been her friend from childhood, until the night she meets Alexander, an up-and-coming rocker, who sweeps Lyv off her feet.

This book was a strange one for me. It did not always flow smoothly, and it often felt like this was a translation from another language into English. I liked Lyv, Ten, and even Alexander just fine, but I spent a great deal of the book wondering what the heck had just happened. This girl's life was one crazy ride, and I had trouble remembering that a) the book took place in the late 1970's - early 1980's, and b) that she was just 17 when the book started, and 19 at the end. I also didn't quite get her fascination with Alexander, who came off as very immature and selfish for the most part. It wasn't until the later part of the book, when Ten reentered the picture and life sort of settled down (and, it didn't really, but...) that I became more fully engaged with the story.

It's rare that I find it difficult to read a book all the way through. 'Ripped,' though, was a struggle for me to finish. I can only give it 3 stars, and hope that the next book will flow more smoothly and make more sense, at least to me.

I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Lyv is a seventeen year old just trying to make it day by day. Living with an alcoholic mother who is verbally abusive and a father who just doesn't care is a nightmare. Her only light in this dark tunnel is her best friend Ten. Growing up they have been each other's rocks. The only one they could each depend on. Ten and Luv find themselves in a club one night where they both see a guy that they are both instantly attracted to. Luckily for Lyv, Alexander has eyes for only her. Luv leaves the club that night disappointed and worried that she'll never see Alexander again. He however has other plans and with the help of his cop brother manages to track her down. When Alexander leaves for his tour Lyv discovers that she's pregnant. Her mother realizes it as well and takes action. How will Luv deal with the consequences? And will the two men in her life stand by her?
This story had some really sad moments. How a mother could act towards her child the way Lyv's did is beyond me. I absolutely adored Ten for always being what Lyv needed. Alexander was hit or miss for me. Maybe if the story included more about him, his life etc. But I did enjoy the storyline and I'm looking forward to reading the next one Jaded.

I didn't receive a complimentary copy, but I got it for almost free at Amazon ($0.99) and it was worth more. Read the first sample chapter and I decided I'm gonna like this book, it did not disappoint.

I pegged this genre for historical since this was set in the late 70s to early 80s but still tagged it as contemporary 'cause I understand historical is in the regency/medieval times.

We have Lyv, a plus size heroine who has trash for a mom, and treasure for a best friend. This story ran for a span of 5 years, and it was quite fast paced. It's about true love, loss, fortune, and how a friend's love turned into more-than-friends love.

I loved the relationship with Lyv and Ten, how they're comfortable with each other, they're each other's support. I'm a fan of friends turned to lovers, and it reminded me of another story, Bianca Giovanni's "Vice, Virtue, & Video: Revealed"; only the ending of this one is quite different with that of the book mentioned.

Lyv is a resilient person, the horrors she went thru she put past and looked forward, with the help of Ten. I don't want to spoil anything here so I'm not dangling any juicy bits. Just know that I enjoyed reading this page-turner. There was never a boring chapter here, and I hope there's a sequel.

This one ripped me open...pun intended. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, different then most books i read in both how it flowed and the writing style I found myself lost in story and unable to put it down. Lyv is a young girl in a horrible situation, her mother is the devil incarnate and blames her for everything wrong in her own life. Young, sweet, and a little naive she falls for the soulful rock star and ends up left with a surprise. Now faced with decisions to make she needs to find her way that is until someone makes those decisions for her. Now picking up the pieces and moving on can she find her HEA?
This book is a coming of age story that will make you laugh, make you cry, and even make you scream. Lyv is sweet and lovable and invokes anyone's protective instinct. I LOVED Ten he stole my heart early on and only solidified it as the story went on as Lyv's knight in shining armor. I will tell you I found though that this book ended abruptly and left me with a lot of unanswered questions. It wasn't a cliffhanger per se but not a complete story either. I look forward to the rest of Lyv and of course Ten's story!

I must first start this book out by saying this book does end in a cliffhanger per se. In this book we meet a young Olivia, me met a more grown up Olivia in Jaded but this is how Oliver's parents met. In this book we find out how bad Olivia's life at home was and how her best friend Ten had his own struggles at home but how they depended on one another to be the life line they needed. During one Christmas Ten takes Olivia to a club and it is the first time she hears Alexander sing. However before she even knew he sang she was in chanted with him. Ten helps encourage this relationship anyway he can as long as he still has his best friend. Alexander and Olivia go through challenges that could possibly leave them going in different directions. If this happens what will happen to Olivia and Ten? I don't want to ruin the surprise of who she ends up with. This is a book about love, acceptance and learning to go on even when you are not sure you can. I would recommend not only this book but Jaded which is another book in this series.

Great read! I really hope there is more to this story. While the story didn't end on a cliffhanger, I feel that it's not finished. There seems to be more that needs to be said. I don't think these characters are finished. While I enjoyed the story very much, it didn't go how I expected it to. Or at least not how I personally wanted it to go. I loved Lyv, Ten, and Alexander. I felt bad for Alexander and I felt like there was more to his character than what was revealed. I was conflicted with how everything played out between these three. It didn't seem fair or right to me. Although I'm sure there are probably many of other readers who probably agrees with how everything played out. I can't say too much without leaving spoilers, and I personally hate spoilers so I do my best not to give any. But, this was an intriguing read and I recommend it to others. I really hope Olivia gives us more with these characters because I just don't think their story has ended. I see more, with so many different possibilities for their futures.

I read this story as a part of the Crazy about Curves anthology. It is the story of Lyv and her relationships with Ten and Xander. I found the storyline an emotional rollercoaster. At times I felt so bad for Lyn and what she had to endure at the hands of her mother. But at other times I wanted to slap her outside the head like a good friend would do and say 'really'? At moments it did feel as my heart had been ripped out, just like Lyv's. While at times she lets circumstances get her down, Lyv is a strong female character and I loved her for that.

The ending left me a little bit out of sorts. There are still so many many questions I want answered. But after reading several of Ms Rigal's books many of the characters are intertwined even across series. If not done correctly it can be a bit frustrating. But the author has done a wonderful job of tying all of the stories together, even though you don't have to read every book and series she has (but I recommend you do) written since each series is its own.

Note I was gifted a copy of the book baby the writer.

This story is very emotional. I was on the verge of tears the whole time I read. I did cry in a few spots. My heart hurts for Lyv, she was dealt a bad hand in life with a practically none existent father and hateful mother whom was nicknamed The Bitch. Lyv was mistreated by her every time they were around each other. Ten, her best friend was her protector and does what he can to make her happy. He is an amazing man. One day he brings Alexander a about to hit big rock star they met at a club home with him for Lyv. Alexander spend as much time with her as he can before leaving for his break out tour and she ends up pregnant. I cried for Lyv and the baby after she finds out she is pregnant and Alexander is gone. Alexander shows up later and gets her pregnant again then rips her heart out so Ten steps in and puts it back together making me cry again. This is set in the end of the 1970s and through most of the 1980s. It truely is a beautiful story just told differently. I really wish Olivia would give Lyv and Ten another book explaining the questions that were unanswered.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book I was dragged in by the story from the very beginning in fact I couldn't put it down and finished it in a few hours I will say that it does have a bit of a cliffehanger ending and can't wait for the conclusion of the story.

When we meet Lyv she's a curvy 17 year old who lives at home and works in her parents diner. Life's not been good to Lyv she is mentally abused and from other things we pick up as the story goes on she was sometimes physically abused by her parents. The saviour in her life is her best friend Ten he really looks out for her, then she meets rising rocker Alexander who she falls in love with and he's someone she can see herself spending the rest of her life with, but life's not that easy for Lyv and is Alexander really the one for her or has the real love of her life been there all along.

I read to chapter 5 and DNF.

I am afraid to say that I was think "juvenile" right from the first chapter. I thought perhaps it was the main female character's character (she was in high school) but I think it was the writing style, unfortunately.

I did not like the heroine. She was vapid.

In the first five chapters we discover said heroine hates her family, she has an uber rich male bestie that she hangs out with. Said bestie is gorgeous but gay BUT they meet his "twin" at a show and he isn't gay. YAY! Not!

Ungay friend is instantly in love with heroine and become a trio of besties.

It wasn't the storyline I had problems with, it was the writing. It was just so basic and bland.

I don't want to waste my time reading books that really don't do it for me. Sorry author.

I received this book from author for honest review. Lyv has a horrible life except when she is with Ten her best friend. She works at the diner and still goes to high school while he is in college. She has self esteem problems because of her mother tearing her down. His family is very wealthy and doesn't really like them spending time together. They go to a club which she meets the guy of her dreams . He truly loves her and they get very close. There is tons of twist and turns in this book that you cannot imaigine. i would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance books with a twist.

I received a copy of Ripped from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the main character Lyv. So much drama in her life and yet somehow she manages to push through and keep going. It’s sad but very inspirational. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys inspiring stories about teens trying to cope with an addicted parent and not many friends. I think you will enjoy this book as much, if not more, as I did because my favorite genre is fantasy. Regardless of your preference in genres I can tell you from experience that this book will keep you interested from start to finish.

I did not really get the point of this book. In my opinion it did not live up to the description, or maybe the description was a little misleading. It takes place in the late 70's early 80's. There are huge chunks of time not accounted for. It ends with "to be continued". The first half was not as bad or weird as the second half. I did not understand how Lyv could let what happened to her baby just be and not report it to the authorities. That whole situation was very odd. Ten and Lyv's relationship in the second part was very unbelievable also. I don't think it was a good idea for the author to make Ten suppress who he really is.

All Lvy wants is to get out from her abuse of mother after school. Her BFF Ten helps her always..Ten brings his friend Alex to meet her one day..Ten n Alex are too much alike in tastes. When Alex n Lvy meet, sparks fly - he shows her love, compassion n care. But being a upcoming rockstar,Alex flies out for tour..leaving Lvy alone and pregnant.

The book has too much ...pregnancy.She gets pregnant like three times...what the?N the first two by Alex and he leaves her both times and then there's Ten..i understand he loves Lvy,but he compromises his sexuality for her?Its so weird.I want to like this book..but its just too chaotic..and there are too many open ends..!Ok read!

Rating - 2.75!

The whole thing was just really odd. The parents, the bi-sexuality, the two guys basically being twins down to driving the same motorcycle, the time it was set in (why 79-83???), the story-line, all the dumb, unnecessary add on (what the heck did the ending with her parents add to the story?), just everything was odd.

It should NOT have taken me two days to read but I just didn't care at all for the people or the story. Only reason I finished it is because I'm trying not to just delete crap books. If I start it, this year, I'm gonna try to finish it.

Don't really get the point of this story. It's got some interesting parts but it skips around a lot. Large chunks of time are missing and it just scratches the surface of the characters. Plus it takes place in the late 70s which I wasn't expecting at all. Im not really explaining this right. But the book wasn't what I was expecting.

Ripped has potential to be a great story but I kept wanting more. I didn't feel like I was getting enough from the dialog and the characters. I loved the time period, the setting, I loved the characters potential, and I could relate to Lvy but I felt I was short changed. :(
