Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic Dentistry is concerned with dental treatments and procedures that emphasize the improvement of the aesthetics of the oral cavity. It is usually associated with elective and preferred services employed by patients who desire to enhance their oral appearance. Common procedures under Cosmetic Dentistry include tooth reshaping, veneers, teeth whitening, among others.

Dental check-up

Along with brushing and flossing, a dental checkup is considered as an essential oral care practice necessary for the prevention of oral-related problems. A dental checkup usually involves a check on a patient’s medical history, an X-ray, examination of the oral cavity, a proposal of a treatment plan, and teeth cleaning.

Dental crown

A dental crown is employed to restore the size, shape, and strength of a tooth. It is a type of dental restoration made from either stainless steel, gold, porcelain, or resin, and positioned over a tooth to cap or encircle the tooth completely.

Dental bridge

Often used to fill the gaps formed by a missing tooth or teeth, a dental bridge is a fixed dental restoration made up of two or more crowns and pontics. It comes in three types namely the traditional, cantilever, or Maryland-bonded bridge.

Dental filling

A dental filling is utilized to mend a decayed, cracked, or broken tooth. It is a restorative material that can be made from gold, amalgam, composite resin, or porcelain.

Dental implants

A dental implant is surgically positioned into the jawbone below the gum line, allowing replacement teeth or a dental bridge to be mounted. It is a permanent tooth root-like post made from titanium which functions and looks like the natural teeth.

Digital X-ray

Digital X-rays help in the detection and diagnosis of oral-related problems by giving the dentist and the patient a detailed view of the oral cavity. Digital X-rays use digital X-ray sensors and emit up to 90 percent less radiation than traditional X-rays.

Emergency Dentist

Dental emergencies include severe pain or inflammation of the teeth or gums, uncontrolled bleeding, and traumatic injury. When these symptoms are experienced, call 808-748-4985 to get in touch with an emergency dentist. Immediate action is necessary to avoid worst problems from transpiring.

Endodontics

Endodontics is a dental specialty concerned with the diagnosis, deterrence, and correction of problems of the dental pulp, tooth root, and the surrounding tissues. A root canal is the most common endodontic procedure. During a root canal, the nerve and pulp are removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed.

Orthodontics

Also a field of Dentistry, Orthodontics is a specialization on the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws. Orthodontic treatment can be done using fixed appliances like dental braces or removable devices like Invisalign.

Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentistry is a specialized field of Dentistry that focuses on the oral health maintenance and needs of children from birth until adolescence.

Tooth extraction

Although Dentistry vows to save every tooth, some cases are severe that a restoration is no longer an option. An unrestorable case of a tooth as a result of cavities, gum disease, or dental trauma needs a tooth extraction. An extraction involves the tooth’s removal from the dental alveolus in the alveolar bone.

Tooth reshaping

Tooth reshaping is an example of Cosmetic Dentistry employed to smoothen and reshape an area of the enamel to improve the tooth’s aesthetic.

Teeth cleaning

Regular brushing of teeth and flossing can be insufficient in completely ridding the mouth of plaque and tartar. A professional dental cleaning is recommended to control and remove dental plaque, calculus, and other oral irritants from the oral cavity.

Teeth whitening

Food and drinks like coffee, cigarette smoking, age, medications, and trauma can stain and discolor the teeth. Professional teeth whitening can significantly whiten teeth. At Hawaii Family Dental, a teeth whitening procedure only takes an hour, saving patients from prolonged exposure to chemicals.

Veneers

Another example of Cosmetic Dentistry, a veneer is used to enhance the appearance and add protection to the surface of the tooth. It is a prosthetic device often made from porcelain that is placed over a tooth.
