Cattle rustlers made off with three calves from a ranch in Saskatchewan’s Ormiston district.
The theft happened at around 3:30 a.m. on March 16, 2017 when a rancher spotted a dark-coloured Ford extended cab truck parked in an approach on Grid 717.

He then saw a man and a woman stealing the calves from his pasture.
The three calves were between the ages of three and seven days.
The rustlers took off westbound when the rancher approached.
He stopped following the truck when it reach Highway 36.

Cattle rustling is a modern day concern for ranchers and not just a relic from the old west.
Ryder Lee, CEO of the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association, said that he has weekly conversations about strategies to address livestock theft and other rural crime concerns.
“That’s why we talk about people keeping an eye out for strange vehicles in the neighbourhood and write down licence plates if you don’t know who they are. That might be something that helps,” Lee said.
“The RCMP are also talking about how trail cameras are a real help; things that turn on when there’s something out there,” he added.
Lee stressed the importance of making sure cattle have the proper identification so you can prove that they are yours and it doesn’t turn into an argument of “he said, they said.”
