AMD Launches the R9 280 Graphics Card

Today AMD has launched the R9 280 graphics card. It looks like they are chasing that $279 pricetag that NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 760 holds. The R9 280 is basically a rebrand of the HD 7950, more specifically the HD 7950 Boost with a 8 MHz difference.

The R9 280 is based off the Tahiti Pro GPU and has a difference of 8 MHz maximum clock compared to the HD 7950 Boost. The HD 7950 has a max clock of 925 MHz where the new R9 280 has a max clock of 933 MHz. Everything else is exactly how it was on the HD 7950 so you have 1792 shaders, 32 ROPs, and 112 TMUs. The card has 3GB of VRAM running across a 384-bit interface at 2500 MHz (effective).
