UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Undergraduate students from all Penn State campuses are encouraged to submit their research for the 2018 Research at the Capitol conference in Harrisburg, this year slated for April 17.
Students interested in presenting their research talents should contact their faculty advisers about submitting their work for consideration. Faculty are also encouraged to nominate students and help them to submit their poster title and a brief abstract. All fields of research are welcome.
Nominations from faculty are due to the Office of Undergraduate Education by noon on Monday, Feb. 5, via email at undergrad@psu.edu. Students will be selected to participate on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Eight undergraduate students will go on to present their work in poster and presentation form at the East Wing Rotunda in the Capitol Complex, and — when possible — visit the state House or Senate chamber as a part of the day’s events. The Office of Government and Community relations will also work to schedule appointments for students with their state legislators.
Faculty members are encouraged to attend along with their students.
“Our students who have participated in Undergraduate Research at the Capitol in the past have been thrilled and honored to spend a day in Harrisburg talking about their work,” said Alan Rieck, assistant vice president and assistant dean for Undergraduate Education. “We are pleased to extend this opportunity again this year and look forward to a strong Penn State presence at the event in April.”
Now in its 16th year, Research at the Capitol continues to focus on the interaction between Pennsylvania legislators and students enrolled in the state’s colleges and universities. In 2017, 11 students from seven Penn State campuses represented the University from a variety of disciplines.
