Biographies: 

Kathleen has more than 19 years of experience at Kirksey, providing in-depth research and critical analysis
by way of client-tailored design solutions for every project she manages. Understanding the inherent
complexities in building forensics, materials, and functions, Kathleen possesses expertise in creative building
envelope solutions and historical preservation. She manages complex, large-scale projects with ease.

Amir Hassan has over 20 years of experience in Building Envelope in the Middle East, Europe and North America. He has worked on very complex projects for both existing buildings (including historical and heritage buildings) and new construction. His Building Science knowledge includes work with structural glass, curtain wall design and evaluation, frameless and skylight systems, structural assessment, propertycondition assessment, building enclosure commissioning, roofing systems, weather-tightness, energy modeling, thermal performance, and thermography. Amir holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civilengineering, and a Master of Science degree in Façade Engineering. He is a frequent speaker and author onroofing and building envelope topics. Amir is also versed with AutoCAD, Therm, WUFI, FEA, CAN-Quest, Autudesk-Robot and other widely utilized engineering programs.

Joe Cotten is the Roofing and Sheet Metal Department Operations Manager at Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing in Houston. Joe spent his first 15 years at Chamberlin in Waterproofing Operations, where he worked his way up to Senior Project Manager before accepting his new role in the Roofing Department
in August. He has extensive experience in both new and remedial waterproofing and concrete repair and has worked on a wide array of projects including healthcare, institutional, multi-family, commercial office, mixed use and industrial. Joe is actively involved in Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) where he chairs both the Commercial Construction and Breakfast/Mixer Committees, was recently part of the ABC Certification Committee to nominate and vet board of director nominees, and was presented the ABC Golden Hammer – an award based on peer nomination as the ABC Idol for December 2016. Joe has also given multiple waterproofing presentations to Texas A&M Construction Science classes over the last three years on behalf of the American Subcontractors Association (ASA). When not working, Joe spends his free time at the Frio River with his family and is always available to talk Aggie football.

Mike McKinnon, General Superintendent at Hoar Construction, has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. As general superintendent, he is responsible for oversight and coordination of field operations on project teams across the country. Locally, Mike has worked on such notable projects as Baybrook Mall, Academy Sports + Outdoors Headquarters, and Harris County Jury Plaza. During his career, Mike has managed a variety of projects with an array of exterior components. Most recently, he oversaw the construction of a 21-story high rise hotel in downtown Houston, a 7-story bed tower expansion with tie in to the existing facility and a new 12,000 seat NCAA Div I FCS football stadium. Once of Mike’s most challenging projects to date was the Harris County Jury Plaza, 85$ of the facility was underground and presented tremendous potential for leaks. Over the years, Mike has leaned the most successful approach to delivering a high-quality building envelope begins in preconstruction with early and frequent communication with key trade partners.
