Making Dreams Come True

TEOBALDO FABREGAS A master craftsman, Engineer and Artist that fused an old world art with the newest technology to make dreams come true‌

Issue 30

PROFILE OF THE MOMENT

Teobaldo Fabregas, learned his craft while growing up in Cuba and helping his father in the family carpentry shop. He made bongos and tumbadoras and sold them to foreigners for extra money. Like many stories we have all heard, he left Cuba on a 15’ boat and the adventure began. Landing in the United States in 1994, chasing the “American Dream” and working job to job to make ends meet. When the recession hit, he found himself sitting at his breakfast table in desperation and with tears in his eyes. That was the day that his passion, Madame Butterfly Carriage was born. Madame Butterfly Carriage is a magical piece of artistic harmony blended with the latest technological enhancements. It began with sketches and scaled models, some hand drawn renderings, hand cut templates and a lot of heart and passion. Teo took three years and many hours of prototypes to perfect the hand crafted carriage which would ultimately fuse old world carpentry with the latest technology. He chose to name it “Madame Butterfly Carriage” because the numerous details throughout the entire carriage. There are two hand-carved butterflies in front of the carriage that seem like they are pulling the entire unit. There are six subtly lighted butterflies each carrying a peace and protection veil that serve as night lighting as well. The front seat resembles two loving swans, the entire ceiling is constructed as if the stems were flowing out of flower petals and the drop down crib door becomes a step for her and her friends to climb in and out. The carriage is made of cherry and maple wood and is completely multi-functional. The ball of the carriage serves as a crib when your princess is born which cradles and rotates. Even the 12 Upscale Living Magazine |

tail of the carriage has a function; it drops down into a child’s changing table. When in the toddler phase, the mattress can be removed and a “Tea for Two” table pops up and two sophisticated children’s chairs are added to the ball. It can also be maneuvered via control remote. The wheels of the carriage have butterflies with carved letters which spell out “princess” or can be customized with your daughter’s name and the fabrics throughout are sent to the artist by the client to match the rooms décor. Since the carriage has a protective sealant, it can be rolled out to a covered terrace and become a play yard for your daughter. Mobility of the 1300 lb. carriage is easier than you think because Teo’s magical hands built and integrated a special system which permits effortless mobility. No detail was left out as the system comes packaged in a wooden crate to match the carriage and for easy storage and transportation. “There is no project too big for him to tackle” says his wife Annie which has been by his side helping to make his dream a reality. “There were many people that laughed at me and thought that I was crazy when I brought them pieces and parts of the carriage to help me complete, like the upholstery and plating, but I was not going to give up” said Teo. “Everything I do is dedicated to my father”. Teobaldo is a master craftsman, artist, and telecommunications engineer. Above all; he is a passionate man that has been inspired by his father and supported by his family; thus being able to take his father’s craft to a totally new level.  By Maria Elena Holguin | Photos by Delio Photo Studio

Marc Allen Clothier “For the Fashion-Conscious Men”

I

f you live on the East Coast and want to shop for upscale men’s clothing, you usually must go to places like New York and Boston. But for the past 10 years, snuggled between those fashion centers, is a well-kept secret in Providence, Rhode Island: Marc Allen Fine Clothiers, where fashion-conscious men can spend tens of thousands of dollars on bespoke suits that are guaranteed to set you apart, or pick from a full range of accessories, slacks, jackets and ties. Whatever you get, says Mark A. Streisand, who made his fashion bones working in New York City for many years before coming to Providence in 2004, “You probably won’t have the same clothing as the guy sitting next to you at a business meeting.” Shopping at the high-end store is low-key relaxing, a small, colorful shop with two orange leather chairs to chill out in, perhaps sip a glass of wine, and let Streisand or his manager, the equally fashion-knowledgeable Jim Fortier, pick your brain and let you pick theirs, all to find you the perfect fit in size and style. They have four tailors who are ready to measure you, and then create whatever you, a long-gone service that isn’t found in many places anymore, and certainly not in Rhode Island, Streisand says. “We have a lot of unique clothing from Loro Piana, the most expensive men’s sportswear in the world, and we’re the only one in Rhode Island to carry it,” says Streisand. “And we’re one of only eight in the country that carries premier baby cashmere, made from a baby goat’s first shearing.”

28 Upscale Living Magazine |

Issue 30

All manner of stunningly beautiful clothing can be had at Marc Allen’s, which Streisand calls “classic with an edge,” from a soft-as-butter lambskin jacket with plucked-mink lining for $20,000 to a baby cashmere, crew-neck sweater for $1,500. Here, you can be outfitted literally from the feet up: The store carries Michael Toschi shoes from Italy, which mixes technology and luxury in the carbon-fiber soles that flex with your feet, ranging from $600-$800 a pair, and socks from Bresciani, Marco Liani and Pantherella, of cashmere or silk or combination of both, from $40$140. Trousers can be hand-crafted for you from many lines of fine fabric the store carries sourced from Canada and Italy, including Luciano Barbera. Keep those trousers up with belts of leather or bison for $250. Scarves to keep you warm in high style includes a $6,000 beauty of baby cashmere and plucked beaver fur. Get fitted for a fine one-of-a-kind suit from fabric the world over for anywhere from $2,900 to $35,000, which Streisand says “is the biggest thing we do, it’s our specialty and to me, the pinnacle of what a guy can wear.” They’ll create a formal suit for you as well, from cashmere or Dormeuil woolens, sport coats of Holland and Sherry wools or Piana cashmere, and shirts from Sea Island cottons from Egypt, Supraluxe from Switzerland and Acorn textiles from England. Whatever you need, they’ll make it, Streisand says: He has one customer who requests custom-made underwear, crafted from fine shirt material.

F A S H I O N “Everything a man puts on his body,” Streisand says proudly, “we can make.” Walk in here and be greeted by an explosion of colorful material, including racks of fine ties from Seaward and Stearn, or have your own made with the Marc Allen label of silk, wool or cashmere. Feeling adventurous? Check out the wild Camiceria Artigiana shirt of digital mosaic design for $350. Hot these days are smoking jackets of the finest silk, material that doesn’t hold smoky smells, he says, and will run you $3,500-$4,500, crafted like a sports jacket with braided collars. “We have a store that allows you to have the best of custom made, or provides instant gratification by walking in and getting something just as good,” Streisand says. Doctors don’t make house calls anymore but Streisand and Fortier do. They’ll come to your home, check out your style and advise you what you can get. “If a guy has 14 blue shirts, we’ll tell him to get blue, but we’ll implement it in a different manner, perhaps different shades,” says Streisand, who apprenticed in New York City where he grew up, includes Wallach’s Specialty Store. And if you’re just into browsing and chatting about men’s fashion, that suits him fine, too. Come on in, sit down and just talk. “I love educating customers about fashion,” he says. “I’ll talk about it all day.” He got into fashion as a young man because, he says with a laugh, “I was short and wanted to attract girls.” He even went so far as to grab swatches of material for a tailor to craft into custom wear just for him. And that instinct has not only stayed with him, it’s landed him in Providence, owning one very unique fine men’s clothing store. “We give you the style you want,” he says of providing a matchless sartorial experience, “with the fit you need.”

TRINI

“The French Beauty Expert” How does your French background influence your work? Being French affects my work in several different ways. Paris is not the beauty capital of the world for nothing. Most, actually the majority, of well-known creators are originally French (Chanel, Dior, Celine, Gaultier, Vuitton, Mugler, Lanvin, etc.). The French culture and our view of beauty are very different in comparison to the rest of the world and of course, hair and makeup are part of this tendency. The typical French woman is more willing to try new things and to be directed by a creative artist. A perfect example would be the tendency of this past year, short hair, seen in my past 2 collections, is a perfect reflection of what is now “in” and yet, it is seen in Miami, where the women are less willing to try new things. The techniques for cutting hair are also different from the ones taught in American beauty schools. This is why, with L’Oréal Professional collaboration where I am one of the United States Ambassadors, I opened an academy, Trini Academy, which permits whichever hairdresser to learn our techniques in Miami. Can you tell us about your mentor early in your career? Do you recommend a mentor for aspiring stylists? What was his/her best advise to you that you still apply to your work today? There are two great names that have inspired me since the beginning of my career. The first, which does not even need an introduction, is Alexander de Paris; and the second, Bruno Pittini. I do not believe that in order to succeed in life one needs a mentor; instead, I believe that we need brands that leave their mark and visions of beauty, which will then permit inspiration and talent, take its own course. On my part, at the age of 4, I was already cutting my friends from school and my dolls’ hair (which would make some people, particularly parents, sometimes unhappy) knowing that this would be the career I will end up pursuing. Creation is a natural talent that cannot be learned, however, if through the means of the brand Trini I can influence and inspire hairdressers, than that would be great because I believe that success should be shared. What is your favorite trend in hair styling? What is the most lasting and complimentary style on women? Particularly speaking, I do not favor one trend over another. As soon as a client comes through my studio doors, I already know what I have to do to make her look her best. I think that the makeup touch is the most lasting and complimentary style for respectable women. Who is your favorite designer? Artist? Does the fashion industry and hair industry compliment and influence each other? My taste verifies with each season but this year, my favorite designer is the purely classy Karl Lagerfeld. There is nothing to say or nothing to change because it is simply perfect. Fashion comes in a set (clothes, hair, makeup, accessories, etc.) and the creators come to us to get in on what is new and what is our vision of beauty. Do you see what happens in the press when a star changes her look? It is incomparable to when she changes dresses. The hairstyle is what people look out more than anything! A recent example is Beyoncé who let herself be convinced to 32 Upscale Living Magazine |

Issue 30

cut her hair short, which looks sublime on her! This change of look and other changes (I can think of at least 10 from the top of my head) as such are the only thing media talks about! What has been your best career achievement? The best is yet to come. I took a big step 10 years ago by leaving Paris to come to Miami with my husband and 3 daughters creating the brand Trini in Private. The Beauty Universe is dominated by men and as a woman; I would like to create a renowned International brand based on the Excellence of Elegance. Who better than a woman to address women? You are known as a French beauty expert. Can you give our readers advise on living with French elegance and a chic lifestyle? (I would love to give readers 5 essential tips for French living-- this could include decor, lifestyle, recipes, beauty, fashion tips) It is for this reason that I have created Trini Secrets, the magazine of the group. Twice a year, I present across this magazine 68 pages of the latest trends in hair and fashion, while exploring exciting events, entertainment and celebrity news, and information on health and wellness, dining, popular personalities and even travel. This magazine is available in each of my salons and it is also available in digital form on my website: www.triniinprivate.com. The best way to receive my daily tips is by following me on my Facebook page TriniArtist or on twitter @Trini. Is there a quote or motto that you live by? For business it will be: “Client Experience and Excellence” and Personal: “Value has value only if its value is valued” Who have been your favorite or most notable clients? It is the constant question journalists ask and all artists say that they have had such and such people in order to show off and boost their egos; I do not believe in answering such questions. These “famous people” are just like you and me and do not merit more attention (knowing that they are famous) than any of my other clients that passes through my studio. In order to respect the privacy of my clients while playing the game with the journalists, I have decided to put forth my “famous person”, who is the most famous and well-known person in this whole world and who for generations, whatever the new tendency, does not change his look. My “famous person” is Santa Claus (look at attachment photo and YouTube video – Santa Claus at Trini Salon). He has been my most loyal client for years and contrary to other “famous people” he never wants to change his look! How do you stay inspired to create beauty? I have the chance of having the opportunities to travel worldwide and my inspiration comes from my walks through the streets of Paris, London, New York, or Milan. Life in general is my source of inspiration.  By Natalie King | Photos by Said Bazze

Athra Luxe and Joey J. “Modern appeal and timeless design”

Jewelry from Athra Luxe and Joey J. Collection radiate style and glamour in a way that appeals to the modern woman.

A

thra Luxe represents the essence of luxury. The pieces range from delicate hoop earrings that are perfect to add a sexy chic for daytime to sophisticated chandelier and drop style earrings for evening that radiate light because of the faceted gold and intricate composition. The Black Crystal collection is comprised of brushed gold and black crystal stones, which gives an unexpected and fresh look, modernizing the ‘little black dress’ and staple pieces in a wardrobe. Joey J. Collection goes by the tag line “To be Charmed and Chained”, a tongue-in-cheek representation of a brand that is most loved because of the edgy-femininity that it perfectly balances. The pieces, designed by Joanne Joesph, mix a combination of gold over sterling silver and oxidized metals, combined with labradorite and cubic zirconia. The bangles are delicate and look fabulous when stacked together. The earrings, rings and pendants all encompass a darkness in metal, and bright stones with intricate designs that recall Byzantine and Gothic eras in a completely modern way. Both Athra Luxe and Joey J. are collections that can represent your personality and mood - and the collections mix beautifully together. Feminine drop earring from Athra Luxe are given an edge when worn with a stack of Joey J.

TOP CELEBRITY HAIR SALONS | 

ROCCO DONNA HAIR & BEAUTY ART — Miami is a fortunate city with not one, but two stellar salons which cater to the stars. Rocco Donna salon, a family business started in Argentina and now headed up by Leonardo Rocco in Miami, has its own talent agency of beauty professionals, and a team of stylists who have contributed to programs for Univision, Telemundo and CNNE. Not stopping there, the busy artist has also recently become the creative team of Professional Color Aloxxi’s “Artistic Director.” The salon’s bright yellow décor, futuristic pod shaped stylist chairs, and individual flat screen televisions create a fun and exclusive feeling environment that embodies the salon’s fresh approach to the world of luxury beauty.

MARIE ROBINSON SALON — After working for hair industry heavy weights such as: Pierre Michel, John Frieda, and Bumble and Bumble, colorist to the stars Marie Robinson caused quite the clamor when she took her talent and celebrity clients with her to her own namesake salon in New York’s Flatiron district. Celebrities like Rachel McAdams, Natalie Portman, and Anne Hathaway can now visit their favorite colorist’s salon, where she reigns in her thoughtfully designed 5,000 sq. foot place. Robinson wanted the space to “feel like home,” and paid special attention to the waiting room of her space. “I know it’s a weird little detail, but no matter what the size of the salon, it’s always too small,” she said in a recent interview.

Lecompte is already known for his editorial work with magazines such as Vanity Fair, Vogue, GQ and Rolling Stone and has worked with illustrious photographers Annie Leibovitz, Mario Testino, and Terry Richardson. He and his partner, stylist Leanne Citrone, opened the loft like space in 2008, which has quickly become, “LA’s most appointmentworthy and celeb-heavy beauty spot,” according to Vogue.com. The salon, which takes the focus off of the talented stylists and onto the clients---a feat often unheard of in the world of high end salons---also, doubles as an art gallery of sorts. The space features works by photographer, Massimo Vitali, as well as pieces by Robert Rauschenberg, Marilyn Minter, and Alison Van Pelt.

les’s career spans three decades and includes: helping to develop the look that catapulted the first celebrity supermodels Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista; working with photographer Steven Miesel; mentoring the rise of super star beauty industry celebrities Laura Mercier, François Nars, Kevin Mancuso, Danilo and Jimmy Paul; and being responsible for creating Jennifer Lopez’s pop star look from her first album on. Oribe has been a busy man, working with top designers like Versace and Chanel, and even contributing his handwork to the reopening of the MET’s Costume Institute galleries. Despite his illustrious career he has not shifted his focus from the passion of creating great hair and his salon in South Beach brings his modernly refined vision of style to a pinnacle in the Miami area.

Mr. Jaleca has had his worked featured in many fashion publications. He has styled the models for the runway shows of top fashion brands such as Emilio Pucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Diane von Furstenberg, Elie Saab, Donna Karan, Robert Rodriguez and Talbot Runhof. The glamorous salon is pristine and elegant.

BOWIE SALON — Being nominated as “ELLE magazine’s Top 100 Salons in America” for 2010, 2012, and 2013 is no easy task. Then, to also be chosen by Allure as Seattle’s best place for a haircut in 2012 and be chosen as Seattle Met Magazine’s “Best Colorist,” while also maintaining status as an elite Intercoiffure salon, you have the recipe for a stellar “must go to” luxury salon. Stacie Bowie, founder of her namesake salon, has had quite the illustrious career. She studied at the Roffler Hair Design School, in Miami, before also earning a certificate as a color specialist from the L’Oreal School in Paris, and learned advanced finishing techniques at the wellknown Mod Hair. All of this was done while working for Dave and Johan International. Bowie then went on to train at Vidal Sassoon in London before working at Redken Fifth Avenue in Miami. Once Bowie moved to Seattle, she opened her own salon in 2005, and has since been offering the area an unparalleled beauty experience. Her salon strives to provide the latest and best to their clients and their many accolades provide verifiable proof. Expect to see great things continue to pour forth from Stacie Bowie’s capable hands as she leads the Intercoiffure America Canada New Members Committee as Chairperson in 2014. 39 Upscale Living Magazine |

delicate, sparkling chain is placed around your neck, weighted by a diamond cluster pendant that reflects a most beautiful luminosity. The piece is both timeless and artfully intricate; possessing a quiet confidence yet vibrant quality that spans past trends and is to be an admired compliment to a woman’s stylish lifestyle. Berge Abajian of Bergio creates pieces that are to be adored. He frequents Europe admiring the architecture, the stone fountains, artwork and fashion. From this, he creates jewelry – sketching intricate details that will best showcase the woman who will wear it. The diamonds that he uses are of the highest quality in order for white and yellow gold settings to allow for the utmost illumination from the stones. Bergio designs are intended for customers well versed in what pieces will inspire them and provide a lifetime of beauty. He requests that customers purchase jewelry with the mind-set of being able to learn about what 40 Upscale Living Magazine |

they are investing in. “I am known for being up front about my designs and my business. I like to encourage customers to ask questions about what they are looking at. I want them to learn about what exactly makes up these pieces – from the design influence, to the stones and materials used. This provides a great confidence in the process” he says. It is easy to fall in love with a Bergio piece, and once the design influence is learned, the jewelry becomes all the more significant. When purchasing jewelry whether for yourself or as a gift, it is important to find what speaks to you. Find what draws you in, and what you can imagine as being a striking accompaniment to every-day life or special evenings out. Berge notes the statement “if you build it, they will come” and applies this to his design aesthetic. He designs with a vision of the wearer in mind – bold, with a beautiful understated confidence that radiates from within. View the collection at www.bergio.com |  By Natalie King

LUXURY MACHINES

Luxury Travel “Analysis of the buyer’s flying requirements and plans for customization is essential to acquisition of an aircraft,” says John Cosenza, Senior Advisor at Flight Dept Solutions LLC. “It is essential that buyers engage a professional aircraft consultant to lead the efforts from analysis through acquisition to aircraft operation. Successful completion of all the steps in this process will result in the delivery of an aircraft that meets or exceeds the buyer’s personal requirements.” While leasing is always a great option of convenience with the many methods available worldwide today, having the ability to choose your perfect jet with a fully customized interior that fits your own lifestyle is true luxury.

In the cases when money is not an issue, the world’s most elite look to Boeing Business Jets for the ultimate in customized luxury. With the initial price tag being in the area of $300 Million, purchasing this plane is not a spontaneous buy. Though these are still very rare on the market, the interior space leaves an abundance of room for the ultimate in creativity. With more than six million parts going into these jets, Boeing is only able to produce two per month. Several ingenious options make these jets a true home away from home. One such option here is the Aeroloft, which is a modular product designed specifically for the VIP 747-8 aircraft, providing eight private sleeping berths. In the main cabin with most configurations, up to one hundred people can travel very comfortably up to just over 8,800 nautical miles. Spacious staterooms, full bathrooms and screening rooms are just a few available options when customizing your very own BBJ 747-8. In this case, the sky is the limit!

The Boeing Business Jet 747-8 VIP

The Gulfstream G650 With over fifty-years in the business, Gulfstream is continuing to only improve their airplanes in both what is seen by the naked eye, as well as the many enhancements done to the things not necessarily seen, such as safety features and overall cutting-edge technology. Having started with rather humble beginnings, more than 2,100 Gulfstream jets are now in more than seventy five countries, has more than fourteen thousand employees in twelve locations around the world, and is known to be one of the prominent choices for both heads of states and corporate CEOs. Originally introduced in 2008, the Gulfstream G650 is the flagship of their fleet, and a remarkable example of having an ultra high speed and ultra long-range business jet together in one sleek package. For jets in this class, the G650 has a cabin that is longer, wider and taller than almost any of the other options, along with having the distinct advantage of traveling up to 7,000 nautical miles nonstop thanks to the Rolls-Royce BR725 engines taking you closer to the speed of sound than any other traditional business jet. At $65 Million, it’s a steal for the many advantages that come with Gulfstream’s pride and joy.

Taking Flight In Your Own Private Jet When it comes time to officially take the plunge and purchase (or look at leasing options) in the new year, here are two great jets to consider. However in today’s market, there are numerous jets available today, and always strongly suggest having a professional involved during the entire process since this purchase is a bit more involved than simply picking up the newest car from your local dealer.

For those that desire the most advanced technology, look no further than the G650, complete with advanced safety features such as Enhanced Vision System (EVS) II™, the Head-Up Display (HUD) II and the Synthetic Vision-Primary Flight Display (SV-PFD). Its Planeview II™ cockpit comes equipped with a Triplex Flight Management System, Automatic Emergency Descent Mode, 3-D weather radar and Advanced Flight Controls. For those looking for a standard customization of the interior, Gulfstream offers twelve floor planes to provide the best use of space for each jet ordered.  By Damon M. Banks

HOME INTERIOR + ARCHITECTURE How and when did you know that you had an eye for interiors? I always loved beautiful things. I always noticed beautiful things. When I was about 8 or 9 years old, my mother was renovating our apartment. I was the kid that knew exactly what I wanted my bedroom to look like; all charcoal and grey lacquer furnishings. I cared a lot about music, and even my stereo sound system coordinated with this. Just grey and charcoal with only a bit of color. It was definitely innate. What is the best interior design advice that you’ve ever been given? Know what you are looking for and find someone in the industry who understands. Also work for the people that you admire. |  By Karen Holly Berliner

Making the GRADE NYC Sometimes it’s all in a word. Take the word GRADE for example. Derived from the term GRADIENT, in the case of this architecture and interior design company, grade represents their process; that of distilling information to its essential property. In addition and based on partner Thomas Hickey’s background working with Robert AM Stern Architects prior, it also represents his particular desire to distill traditional values into modern visions. GRADE in essence, is an interior design duo namely Thomas Hickey and Edward Yedid, who highly specialize in gorgeous, luxe, modern spaces. Founded in 2001, this is a multi-disciplinary New York-based architecture and interior design company that translates clients’ visions and style into luxurious, personalized spaces. With a portfolio spanning highend residences and restaurants to luxury retailers and custom furniture, GRADE’s aesthetic is rooted in client driven and informed design that fuses tradition with modernity, featuring an emphasis on singular pieces with a transformative edge. This company has also introduced a signature line of furnishings, characterized by their unique brand of clean lines and the tasteful interplay of quality materials, featuring masculine silhouettes and sleek materials such as lacquer, leather and polished chrome, further ensuring the brand’s portfolio is a fully articulated experience. Highlights include the GRADE Club Chair, GRADE Console Table and the GRADE Bench. Upscale Living caught up with partner Ed Yedid, in between projects and cups of coffee! He graciously offered us an insider’s view of GRADE: Holistic has become what seems to be a much overused buzz word in your industry and in other industries. Tell us a little bit more about your holistic approach. We are an architectural design firm and no matter what the prophecy; be it a restaurant, a building or a home, we consider all factors at once, from the nature of the structure to the personality of the owner. We get information from our clients about who what where and how and take it from there, rather than compartmentalizing, we consider all as a whole. 46 Upscale Living Magazine |

Completed in May 2011, this private residence is a 3,712 sq. ft. loft located on Manhattan’s Greene Street, in the upscale Soho district. GRADE designed the loft to serve primarily as an entertaining space for a large family of five, opening up the living, dining and play areas to create a large unified living area ideal for social gatherings and musical performances, per the family’s hobbies. In keeping with the client’s musical inclinations, GRADE repurposed the living room area’s back wall to serve as a stage for the family when practicing instruments or performing for friends. Tiffany & Co. Location: Taipei, Taiwan; Shanghai; Marina Bay Sands, Singapore In working with this iconic company, GRADE’s objective was to re-brand the retailer for the Asian market while still maintaining and modernizing its long-standing and highly recognized hallmarks. Each boutique referenced elements of Tiffany’s Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York City, translating the design into a more contemporary aesthetic. An Upcoming Project The Arman Location: New York, NY A dedication to renowned artist Arman, this luxury residential building is slated for completion in September 2012. Merging art and comfort, this 16,380 sq. ft. structure in West Soho features over 100 feet of southern exposure allowing the natural component of light to add a holistic nuance. MIAMI’S PORSCHE DESIGN TOWER “Sky Top Splendor” Famous for its popular beaches, trendy Ocean Drive, high-end nightlife and celebrity-clad streets, there is no place on earth with quite the same obvious luxury as sunny South Florida. From West Palm Beach’s opulent Worth Avenue to Miami’s international flair, it has forever been a hotspot for affluent travelers, politicians, culture enthusiasts and “fashionistas” alike—never failing to set the scene for an exotic decadence that is both unique and irresistible. That being said, when we think of penultimate luxury, there is nothing more suitable than the Porsche Design Group’s first-ever Porsche Design Tower Miami. Located on the sandy shores of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, this ultra-luxury collection of oceanfront condominiums is the iconic car-creator’s first foray into real estate. Even more impressive than its unparalleled views is its most innovative amenity: three one-of-akind glass car elevators and multiple “sky garages,” where residents use state-of-the-art technology to park their Porsches, Ferraris, Maseratis and other luxury vehicles right outside their very own living room. A truly groundbreaking development, the $560-million Porsche Design Tower Miami is designed to accommodate only the best. Scheduled to be complete by 2016, and sitting right on the prestigious Collins Avenue, this establishment will reach 60 stories high on 2.2 acres of prime real estate—making it the tallest oceanfront residence building in all of the United States.

Most impressive about this new real estate option is, of course, its unique “sky garages” and robotic car park. Noticing Miami’s trend towards designer parking garages, the Porsche Design Group teamed up with Gil Dezer—an iconic Miami Beach developer, and one of South Florida’s most prominent businessmen—to take this trend to the next level. Engineering a robotic arm that actually lifts each owners high-end vehicle into and out of a glass elevator, residents can pull into a designated parking spot, turn off their car, and enjoy panoramic ocean views as they stay in their automobile and get dropped off right at the entrance to their condominium. Throughout the building, all regular and larger units will come with two or four robotic parking spaces, respectively, creating a total 284 robotic parking spaces for all Porsche Design Tower Miami residents. Bringing the future right to our doorstep, Gil Dezer and the Porsche Design Group have established themselves as a driving force in innovative real estate solutions worldwide. Offering only the best in luxury and glamour, Porsche Design Tower Miami is sure to be South Florida’s hottest high-end residence—setting the standard for oceanfront living across the globe. |  By Jennifer Agress

Built to include 132 residences, each spanning 4,200 to 17,000 squarefeet of living space, this new development boasts panoramic views of the Intracoastal Waterway, city life or the Atlantic coast below. Most importantly, all of these oversized units will be designed with the utmost of luxury: including a private elevator that opens directly into the residence, state-of-the-art kitchens with motorized doors and expansive islands, deluxe fireplaces and floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides. Furthermore, larger units will house their own private swimming pool and summer kitchen on a large outdoor terrace, while units spread across two floors will even feature their own interior elevators. 49 Upscale Living Magazine |

The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club “A Magnificent Resort” The first impression one gets upon viewing the Vinoy Renaissance Resort is awe at its scale and grandeur. The fact that the hotel has its own signature coral color that winks and glistens against the bright blue Floridian sky just makes it so much more fantastic. The architectural marvels of the magnificent luxury resort don’t stop at just the unique color. The Mediterranean design is evident in every detail of the building, instantly transporting visitors to the feeling of being off the crystal coast of Malta instead of Florida. The warm salty air off the bay invigorates every breath you take and the cheerful opulence of the Vinoy lifts the spirits. One of the resort’s defining features is its octagon shaped Observation Tower, designed to resemble a Renaissance bell tower. The delights of the resort’s atmosphere don’t end with its arches influence by Moorish architecture, or breezy verandas, or enchanting frescos. Each room is splashed with cheery colors of bright red and lime in furniture that holds clean modern lines. The brightness is balanced with white and nudes and cooled with various ocean inspired blues. Of course, what is a trip to St. Petersburg, Florida and to a magnificent luxury hotel that caters to celebrity clientele if you only spend time admiring the architecture of the place? runs to their magnificent 18 hole par 71 golf course that, thanks to Florida’s friendly climate, is open year round. The uniqueness of this course is not just its well laid out design, but in the fact that it is a wildlife refuge. This means you get to enjoy a more traditional golfing environment with a host of endangered animals and vegetation. Golf not your sport? The resort has several tennis courts to enjoy as well as its own marina. The marina offers all the luxury amenities you would expect from a world class resort. There are four restaurants and lounges to choose from, a spa, fitness center, library, and gift shop. The hotel will even cater to you on your boat with a special menu. Speaking of the food, don’t miss out on the resort’s award winning Marchand Restaurant. The restaurant is one of several belonging to the resort, and it serves seafood based dishes under the command of Executive Chef Mark Heimann. Chef Heimann is a veteran of the culinary community with an illustrious 20 year career. The restaurant is most unique due to its history as the resort’s old Pompeii inspired dining room designed by the esteemed architect, Henry L. Taylor, when the resort first opened in 1925. Discovery of the ruins of Pompeii, during that time, had the world bursting with excitement and the entire theme

of the restaurant was centered on that event. After a detailed renovation in the 1990s that changed the dining hall into the Marchand Restaurant, the beautiful frescos were restored and saved. A long stay is not needed in order for you to discover why celebrities such as: Raquel Welch, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Jay Leno, George Clooney, Bo Derek, Carol Burnett, Vicki Lawrence, Tom Petty, Wolfgang Puck, Joe Namath, and Melissa Etheridge, to name but a small few, have called this place “home away from home” during their stay in St. Petersburg, Florida. WINES + SPIRITS + CIGARS

The Days of Wine and Roses Discover Luxury Wines from Around the World

A fine wine is like the perfect rose: simple but with depth and grace. The “Days of Wine and Roses” is more than a movie title. It refers to the centuriesold custom of a rose planted at the start of a trellised grapevine row. The rose not only added beauty to the vineyard, but it also attracted honeybees for pollination, leading to a bountiful harvest. Thus, the rose helped the gardener grow the perfect grape. Finding your ideal wine is much easier than growing the perfect bunch of grapes. Sometimes the best wines can be right in your own backyard. Other times, the perfect luxury wine may take you on a longer journey. Let us journey around the world to find the perfect red, white and rose luxury wines for your enjoyment.

WINES + SPIRITS + CIGARS Red wine - Red wine can have multiple aspects, depending on the age. When young, it can be fruity and subtle. After aging in oak barrels, it can be much more intense and defined. Reds are known to accompany red meat and cheese, but other pairings can also spark the taste buds’ imagination. Wine pairing is an art, and one that Executive Chef Robert Gerstenecker of Park 75 Restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta is known for. One of his remarkable pairings places the Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-pape alongside Peking-style roasted squab with a pomegranate glaze, grilled asparagus and sweet potato puree. This full-bodied wine is deep red with notes of dark berries. The berry undertone of the wine accents the pomegranate glaze and also brings out the sweetness of the sweet potato puree. It reigns from the Rhone Valley region of France. This winery has been awarded the Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-pape.

White wine - White wine comes from white grape varieties, and is the most refined wine of all types. While more fruity white wine is usually paired with seafood, once aged, it makes a more suitable companion for white meat and cheese. When traveling to various regions around the world, always try the local wines first. Local wines harbor personality of the region and help you discover the place you have journeyed to in a new way. And in that, you can also pair wine with a location. The Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, recently released its own house wines to be served not only in its Atlantic Grill restaurant but also throughout the entire resort. These wines pair exquisitely with the resort, whether you are at the pool deck overlooking the bay or in the Atlantic restaurant gazing out over the harbor and mountain. The resort will also help you arrange tours of the winelands to get a closer look into the wine’s origins.

Rosé wine - Although rosé wine is just making a much-needed comeback in the United States, it has always been the most popular in the Provence region of France. Rosé wine requires the most delicate production. This lighter taste can be enjoyed for simple drinking pleasure or during a meal. If you’re unsure which wine to choose for a meal, the rosé is your safest bet. If you are traveling to France, the concierge at the Terre Blanche Hotel Spa & Golf Resort will pair you with tours of the best wineries in the region. An amazing rosé like Chateau Font du Broc Cotes de Provence Rose is best tasted at its source, the Chateau Font Du Broc winery, which offers daily guided tours and tastings. This winery was also awarded the “Appellation d’Origine Controlée” classification, a designation reserved for only a few wineries in the world. The “Côtes de Provence” wines are said to be the most sophisticated of all wines, yet subtle and delicate enough to be served with truffles or lobster. While in France, make a point to meet a few other wines in their Provence homeland, too. This region is an expert, with 2,600 years of history with wines. In fact, the wines of Provence were known to be the most requested wines of the French kings of the Middle Ages.

Wines worth the journey - One of the most renowned places in the world to sip the nectar of the gods is Paris. For a wine-inspired adventure, stay at the Le Bristol Paris in the heart of Paris. Attend one of Le Bristol’s wine-appreciation evenings on the first Monday of each month at the Michelin-Starred restaurant, 114 Faubourg. The wine here is chosen and presented each month by the head sommelier, Marco Pelletier. The wine-grower is also invited for a degustation. Each month’s chosen wine is matched with a four-course tasting menu specially created by Chef Eric Desbordes. The wine is then featured throughout the rest of the month on the lunch and dinner menus. Most recently, the chosen winery was Domaine Vacheron, which produces some of the finest white and red Sancerre in the world. Since 2004, the entire vineyard has been labelled organic. Wines here range from 20-year-old sauvignon blancs to 30-year-old pinot noirs. Where will your wine desires take you? Will it be to the romantic heart of Paris, the French countryside, Cape Town or a lovely restaurant in your own backyard? |  By Ava Roxanne Stritt

PROFILE OF THE MOMENT

JOHANNES HUEBL “The Perfect Match”

German model and photographer Johannes Huebl speaks exclusively to Upscale Living about attending the world’s biggest polo tournament, the Argentina Open, as a guest of luxury Scotch whisky Royal Salute.

Johannes Huebl’s journey with luxury Scotch whisky brand Royal Salute started after he attended a charity polo match in Greenwich, Connecticut in May, which benefited Sentebale, the charity Prince Harry cofounded to help poor children and AIDS orphans in the small African nation of Lesotho. A few months later, luxury Scotch whisky brand Royal Salute asked Johannes if he would be interested in working on polo events this year in Argentina and India, an offer he swiftly accepted, as it married many of his passions: sport, style and capturing the essence of Royal Salute, events and fascinating destinations through his photography. In his new role, Johannes has used Instagram to bring the brand closer to people who follow what he does. Typically posting one photo a day, Johannes gives his followers an insight into his interests; whether he snaps the places he visits at the weekend or uploads a fine art photograph. 70 Upscale Living Magazine |

Johannes worked with the whisky brand to capture the craftsmanship, skill and passion behind the Argentina Open with his stunning photography, which was then showcased to his 175,000 followers on Instagram Describing his experience in Argentina, where he attended the world’s biggest polo tournament, the Argentina Open, as a guest of Royal Salute, as “amazing,” Johannes says he was really taken care of by the company, beginning with a welcome dinner with Royal Salute team where he sat next to Argentina’s number one polo player, Facundo Pieres. “Facundo is champion of this whole sport [polo]; a warm, welcoming and funny young man. He explained a lot to me about the background of the sport and what he is doing.” The following day, Johannes met Malcolm Borwick, one of England’s leading professional polo players, and tried out the sport himself. In Argentina’s, the polo tournaments are “true to the sport and the beauty of the sport, rather than having as big of a social aspect as it has here. When it came to the polo finals, I could really tell the difference in how people were screaming for their teams, with more than 20,000 people in attendance, rather than sipping on Champagne. In the US, women put on their finest skirts, blouses, hats and sunglasses.” On arrival in Buenos Aires, it was “so incredibly hot” and realizing it “wouldn’t really make any sense to wear a full-suited outfit,” Johannes decided to wear a blazer accessorized with a pocket, white pants and loafers for a smart-casual look. “No ties are necessary at the polo matches in Argentina,” he says, and “people are completely fine with buttoned-down shirts and chino trousers, for example. I think I brought the right wardrobe with me and was appropriately dressed, adding a tie when going to certain venues for dinner.” Defining his own sense of style as “smart-elegant with nuances of English-Italian fashion,” Johannes wears a lot of Italian fashion and has a tailor in Germany, “who works with me on my creations; I tell him exactly how I would like to have my suit. My style is classic with a modern twist.” After his “one-of-a-kind experience” in Buenos Aires, Johannes was preparing for his next trip with Royal Salute to India at the time of the interview, and hopeful that his work with the brand would continue. “I hope we can all make this happen. I love the brand, what it stands for and the sports. I’m very sporty myself and used to ride horses when I was younger, so I’m really happy to be part of this characteristic project; it just combines so many things that I like,” he enthuses.
