Some "econophysics" research has been "cringeworthy," writes physicist/author Mark Buchanan, but physicists have made a number of lasting contributions to a deeper understanding of finance and economics.

In some cases, he adds, they have helped change the direction of research in economics.

His review of eight fruitful efforts by physicists includes two led by and SFI and SFI-affiliated researchers.
