St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are in full force this weekend.

The Chicago River was officially turned green at 9:30 a.m., a little earlier than usual.

The dyeing was previously scheduled for 10 a.m., but organizers have found it difficult to start the parade on time with so many people gathered along the river to watch it turn green.

An noon, The Saint Patrick’s Day Parade kicked off downtown at Balbo and Columbus.

In light of the festivities, CTA and Metra both have extended service throughout the day.
