Radio France requests DAB+ frequencies in Strasbourg, Lille and Lyon

President and CEO of Radio France, Mathieu Gallet, has confirmed this week that he will officially ask the French government for DAB+ frequencies in Strasbourg, Lyon and Lille. His request to the Ministry of Culture will be for Mouv’ to improve coverage in Strasbourg, and for FIP in both Lille and Lyon. Both stations currently have virtually no coverage in any of these three cities. [Relevant section is at time index 2:11:00].

Myanmar starts DAB trial

Ofcom UK launches annual digital radio report

The report reveals that digital radio accounted for 45.5% of total listening hours in Q3 2016. This is a year-on-year increase of 3.6 percentage points in digital radio’s share of total listening hours. 85% of newly-registered cars are now fitted with DAB as standard. This represents a year-on-year increase of 12 percentage points.

Norway tests DAB+ on the water

In January 2017, Norway becomes the first country to start switching off FM transmissions in favour of terrestrial digital broadcasting via DAB+. Any switchoff of FM transmissions needs to consider all radio users, even those in fishing boats off the coast. So, throughout the Norwegian summer, three NRK engineers packed a variety of radio monitoring equipment, a few portable DAB+ sets and took to the waves.

Angel Radio to broadcast in London on DAB

Nostalgic station Angel Radio is joining the DAB line-up in London, making its programmes available in the Capital for the first time. Radio in the car - popular everywhere

Industry body Commercial Radio Australia has released some new data about radio in the car. Unsurprisingly for radio, it’s good news: radio accounts for 80% of all audio listened-to in the car. Pandora, Spotify and Apple Music total just 3% of time spent listening, and “other audio”, which contains podcasting and internet radio, is 5%.
