Years ago, when my husband and I were young and had time for such things, we used to enjoy something called Good Wine/Bad Movie night. It was exactly as the name implies. We would take turns picking out a good bottle of wine and a bad movie. The idea being the better the wine was, the worse the movie could be. We had a lot of fun on such nights. You couldn't take the drack we were watching seriously (serious B grade sci-fi was a favourite), but when paired with high quality alcohol you would have been laughing at it too. It was fun.

If Dark Indiscretions was a movie, it would have been a prime contender to pair with an excellent Côtes de Bordeaux. It's bad. I mean, really bad. The only reason I'm not giving this a one star is because it's so bad it trips over into the 'so super-bad it's funny' category and since I'm the sort who enjoys staying awake to watch the cheesy late-night fantasy fair I actually got a kick out of this.

I cringed at the writing. The dialogue just about killed me. The plotting was a disaster. The editing was MIA. The character development was nonexistent. The sex was brutally blunt, brusque even. The POVs and tenses were erratic at best. But it was like a train wreck I just couldn't look away from. Not once did I consider putting it down and not finishing it. I was too busy being amused at it's horridness.

I highlighted a number of examples that I had intended to include here, but I think at this point it might just seem cruel. Instead, I'll link to my Amazon highlights. (I hope that even works.) And despite my assertion that the book is a rolling disaster, I'd still recommend it to people like me who enjoy a good cheese-fest on occasion, maybe a little WTFery thrown in on the side. This is the book for you.

Fun and Fast Paced Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance

Dark Indiscretions is a fun read, containing a fresh take on the world of supernatural beings. Although it contains some dark themes, it is also full of humour, feisty females, alpha males and characters whom the reader grows to love despite their many flaws. Due to the inclusion of some hot love making, including m/m scenes, the book is an adult read.

In Dark Indiscretions supernatural beings co-exist with human kind. Jennifer Johnston, the heroine, is a Mystic (a Vampyra Shapeshifting Witch). Jennifer is not typical of her race, who take pleasure in sadistic behaviour and who are regarded as evil by other supernatural beings. Instead, she has a conscience and does her utmost to resist the pull of the evil that nevertheless resides within her. Despite this, she is capable of great evil if the need arises.

Jennifer’s battle to go against the wishes of her family and not engage in an incestuous relationship sets the scene for the events in this novel. Even when she believes that she has escaped the evil that is her family she finds herself being stalked unrelentlessly by an unknown enemy. This happens at the same time that she discovers that instead of one fated mate she is ‘blessed’ with two, who happen to be Dylias, werewolves. Not only that but her mates, Jackson and Taylor, have themselves been mated for a long time and are deeply committed to each other. Who is staking Jennifer and how can she escape from her past, which still haunts her? Also will Jackson and Taylor find room for Jennifer and how will they cope with being mated to a Mystic, a race they despise?

There is much violence, danger and suspense in the novel, as Jennifer discovers the identity of her stalker and with the aid of Jackson, Taylor and others seek to destroy him before he destroys someone very dear to her. However, he is not going down without a fight. Jennifer and her mates must seek the help of others to succeed and we are introduced to a number of other characters as the tale plays out. There is also plenty of snarky humour and a number of smoking hot lovemaking scenes, notably between Jackson and Taylor, which I loved.

I enjoyed the character of Jennifer, the heroine. Although strong, she does struggle with the potential for evil that resides within her and also experiences trauma from past events. Krista, the other Mystic we are introduced to his novel, finds it far more difficult to curb her race’s natural instincts and it will be interesting to see how the author takes her story forward. It is Jackson and Taylor who stole the show for me however, as they are just so yummy! I enjoyed their reaction when they found out that Jennifer was their mate and I hope the author will explore the dynamics of how their existing relationship accommodates Jennifer a little more in the next instalment.

I found Dark Indiscretions to be a promising start to a new series. I liked how the author had taken the vampire myth and put her own spin on it and I am looking forward to reading Monsters Unleashed, the forthcoming novel. I recommend this series to readers of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance.

A copy of this book was given to me by the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

Dark Indiscretions by Shakuita Johnson is a must read for all lovers of Paranormal Romance with a healthy dose of erotica thrown in for good measure. It is also a different twist on the world of supernatural creatures. Although quite dark and bloodthirsty, there are plenty of humorous scenes to lighten the load with feisty females, horny alpha males and various characters whom this reader enjoyed despite their many flaws.
The heroine is a Mystic, a vampire and shape-shifting witch all rolled into one sex package. But Jennifer is not your typical, everyday Mystic, who enjoy inflicting pain - she has a conscience and strives to resist the irresistible pull to her dark side. Sometimes she fails.
This is a must read for PNR lovers with a thrilling pace full of juicy gory action and juicy sex too.
FIVE STARS for this paranormal romance and highly recommended.

Ok, so truth be told I wasn't sure of this one at first. It was a little confusing at the beginning. You definitely have to be open to anything. Once the story really started to pick up and everyone met the others, it was really a great story. It was different, in a good way. Can't wait for the second one. :)

** I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK, BY THE AUTHOR, IN RETURN FOR AN HONEST REVIEW **

Let me start by saying that I really enjoyed this book. The concept of Mystics and all the other ‘creatures’ is a really interesting concept. I like that instead of using ‘werewolf’, ‘witches’ and other common terms, the author has decided to branch out a create new formulae for these creatures, giving them new histories, powers, personalities and names. I think it shows the author has taken a lot of time, and spent a lot of time on research putting this new ‘world’ together.

There are, however, a few things that you should be aware of. One, there should be a huge WARNING tag on this, because there is a truck load of swearing and explicit sex. The F-bomb drops about every sentence, so if you’re sensitive to that, be warned.

The story is clever and intriguing; it’s rather simply done, but it is easy to follow and kept my attention right the way from start to finish. I read this book in two nights; half one night and half the next.

Jenny, our MC, is a Mystic, which is sort of like a witch but with more interesting background. Mystics are known as brutal and violent and Jenny has her own dark past that no-one truly understands. Throughout the story, we are fed little snippets of her past, when it is relevant to the story, which really works for me. We’re introduced to her daughter, Krista, who has her own secrets. The basic plot is that Jenny must confront her past, which leads Krista and Jenny to the two men that are their mates. Krista has two mates, as does Jenny, but the difficulty is in the fact that Jenny’s two mates are already mated to each other, so the transition isn’t exactly smooth.

I do have a few small issues, however. The story starts a little jumpy. We’re introduced to Jack and Tay first, and they’re in a club one minute and then the next they’re suddenly at home, in their bedroom bathroom. It’s slightly confusing because we have no hint that they’ve even gone anywhere. One minute they’re giving each other ‘the look’ that says they want sex, and then the next they’re already in the middle of it and there’s talk of a bathroom. At first I thought of the club bathroom, but it just didn’t read right, and then later it shows them going straight to bed, so it takes a little more attention than another story to figure out where everyone is and what they are really doing.

Also, there is a mention of 14 people fitting into a vehicle late on in the story. However, by my count there are 16: Jenny, Jack, Tay, Nathan, Taz, Kain, the twins, Nathan’s mum and dad, his two brothers, one sister, Billy, Bain and Brian.

There’s also a plot gap that makes me wonder. We’re told that Jennifer can teleport just pages after she wakes up to discover herself surrounded by a crime scene. She panics at the crime scene about how to get out of the house without causing a scene from the blood on her. She also admits, earlier, that she’s cleaned up many crimes by her daughter. Why, when she finds herself in this situation, doesn’t she clean up her own mess and teleport back home? It would be a simple solution, but it also wouldn’t involve calling her daughter and getting her, and her mates, involved, which wouldn’t lead to Jennifer discovering her mates too. It seems a bit of a plot gap, because it would make more sense to use the teleporting, or admit that she’s so stressed out she can barely function, so that would make teleporting dangerous/something she doesn’t think about.

One last thing was that there are ‘word meanings’ at the end of the story. I think it would have been better to have this at the beginning, so that when the new, strange words entered the story we would better understand what they meant. Sometimes the explanation of what they are is a little later than we need it to be and not as explicit as it could be.

Overall, I really liked the book and the characters. I look forward to reading Book 2 soon and seeing how the story and the characters progress.

This is a story about creatures where not a single one of them is good. They are bad and worse. Mystic's are the worse, and Jenny is a Mystic. But she is not like the rest of the mystics because she doesn't want to be evil. Her daughter is closer to the natural mystic but Jenny worked hard to show her daughter that evil is a choice. But Jenny is being stocked by something sinister and yet all Jenny wants to do is find her soul mate, only to find out she has two. And there a creature that is not Mystic but what will she do when her daughters life's at stake.

May Contain SPOILERS!!!!!!!!

I was given this book for my opinion. First I was impressed with the originality of the plot and story line. That being said, I was very disappointed. An original story (at least of what I have read) could have been developed much further. I was intrigued with the mate thing including homosexuality. Wish I had some warning there was going to be some 3-somes in this book, but otherwise I don't care. What is sad is that I think the sex scenes were more thorough then the rest of the book, and the sex scenes had the right amount of detail.

This story was highly under done. I felt like I was reading the 2nd or 3rd draft of the story, not the finished draft. There were grammatical mistakes like "Here" should have been "Her." I know it is difficult to self publish but it seems like someone should have read over it. And there where not enough details of the surroundings and going on's of the story. I feel like only the head of the story was made, and not the rest of the body. And the transitions were terrible. They were way to rough. Rough may be a style but this was written like a thought process, which you can't do if your jumping character to character. I think there is nothing wrong from seeing from multiple characters views but it would change in the middle of the paragraph from Taylors and Jackson. I get they share minds, but seriously could have done better. I will admit the clarity of the transitions go better towards the end. The flashbacks were decent. They could have used another draft but they worked. I didn't have to think about what I was seeing.

I would have liked to learn more about the creatures themselves. Like bring in the Mystics special abilities more and why they believe in inbreeding. And explain the cat characters more because I can't see there transformations. And these stereotypes that were brought up? Those needed to be thickened. I also don't understand the point of the humans. Either lighten it so it sets up the next book or lay it down heaver making it more prominent. This book could have easily add a 100 pages by just developing the story more. I have no problem with books in simple writing because we need them, but the author did not, I feel, fully explain how she sees the story playing out. She understands it but I feel like I only looked at the skeleton of the story, not the whole body.

I hope she does another addition of this story by delving into greater detail and applies it to her next book. I'm not trying to insult I swear. But I have a Bachelors in English, so I know some of what I'm taking about. I see a lot of potential for this story and the author. And I'm highly curious about Jenny's baby and what powers it may posses.

The author gave this book to a few people, including myself, for free in exchange for an honest review - without spoilers.
Now that the full disclosure has been given, off to the review.
This book has literally NO FLUFF. It is straight, to the point, which in turn does not allow for full character development.
It should be added, however that you should have some background knowledge into the mythological characters - ie. wolves, witches, vampires, etc. but you need to know that, for example, werewolves have a quick temper.
There is a section at the end of the book that defines all of the characteristics of the characters and definitions of unfamiliar terms which was nice, though I still have some difficulty understanding the main character as her background story did not seem fully developed.
This book also introduces some characters that don't get fully developed. I am a few chapters into the 2nd book and it does start to tie these characters in together.
I would have liked a better flow for things. Some things were choppy, jumping back and forth between characters and also centuries (it is possible that my kindle did not correctly define a change of person/time) and some of the grammar was off, for example, 1600s verbal interactions was not full of swearing like today's culture, as well as slang. The background story was a neat plot which I did enjoy. As an avid reader of most major mythical adult series, I thought some things were just thrown in for the sake of having it in the book (ie swearing and sex scenes), but again, the plot was straight forward without twists, it just keeps moving, instead of stagnating with boring background. There is a thin line between too much and not enough. I would have definitely liked more development of the characters personalities especially when they become mated.
I would rate this 3.5 stars

Dark Indiscretions by Shakuita Johnson

Dark Indiscretions by Shakuita Johnson we meet Jenny who is a Mystic and she strives not to be like her family who would have her married off to her brother so they keep bloodlines pure. No she wants nothing to do with her family. One day though she snaps and kills her entire family (not without cause).

Jenny has a daughter, Krista who does not yet have complete control over her powers but who is trying. Krista loves her mom and looks after her. One night shortly after Krista meets her Nyhiya (mate), she gets a call from her mother who is panicked. Jenny tells Krista that she needs her to come get her because they need to clean up a mess. Jenny woke up to a blood filled room. The two people she went home with were slaughtered. She did not remember doing it but after thinking about it for awhile, she realizes someone else did it but she doesn’t know why.

Krista enlists the help of her two Nyhiya, one who is Alpha of a pack of wolves (Taz)and his Betas Jackson and Taylor to figure out who is behind it. When Jenny, Krista , and her mates go over to Jackson and Taylor’s, Jenny finds her Nyhiya.

Everyone has to learn to get over stereotypes and work together to find out what is going on and find the person targeting Jenny.

Dark Indiscretions by Shakuita Johnson has M/M, M/F/M scenes and is not for the faint of heart. This was my first experience with M/M but it did not bother me or detract from the storyline that I was reading.

The story had a nice flow to it. Just enough back story to connect everything together. The author did a nice job with the book.

A copy of this book was gifted by the Author in exchange of an honest review.

This story completely took me by surprise, is not your every day paranormal read, it will sit very well with urban story lovers, it had so much content I really appreciate the author for writing with such fluidity and efficacy.
I really enjoyed the way the characters were portrayed and how the author from the very first page went straight to the point, right from the start it was action packed.
Dark Indiscretions was an entertaining story, it was a different style to your usual paranormal read, in this story we see that the human race and the paranormal co-excist, but Jennifer our heroine (a Vampyra Shapeshifting Witch), is not typical of her race, those of her kind are normally behaving in a sadistic way, even other species regard them as dangerous, but she is different from the rest of her race and she seems to be conscious of her actions and therefore is a constant battle trying to fight her instincts, apart from fighting her inner desires she also has to constantly fight the wishes of her family and this sets the precedent for the events that will follow. There are some sensitive subjects including rape, incest, strong sexual content and some m/m scenes, however, the author in my opinion carried them out very well and they were delivered in an appropriate manner and in line with the story line. As with some sequels, sometimes you tend to feel the ending feels a bit rushed, you can see there are so many pages left and you are not going to get some of the issues resolved, so I am patiently waiting for the sequel.

3.5 stars (liked it)

I was given this book by PRATR for an honest review. I enjoyed this, I did, but I was in two minds about the 4 fangs for a reason, that I'll explain in a mo. What I liked about it, was, the SPEED that this book moves at! it gets going, right from the first page, and then runs, and runs and you gotta run with it to keep up!! Set only over a few days, except the bits in 1625, we meet Jennifer, a Mystic. Mystics have a nasty reputation, but Jennifer isn't quite like the rest of them. We meet Jackson and Taylor, who are Dylia (wolf). We also meet Krista, Jennifer's daughter and her mates, Taz, also a Dylia and Nathan, a Hyjia (cat shifter) some M/M scenes, some M/F/M and some M/M/F scenes, all well written, but not as explicit as some I've read. the plot, as I said moves at speed, it also contains some difficult subject matter: rape, incest, kidnapping and torture. all dealt with well, but be warned, this is not your usual fluffy vampire/shifter romance! these characters are all deadly, and they make no bones about it. in a review by the author, she states she didn't want that, and she delivers her promise.

what I didn't like about it was, the SPEED at which this book moves. I know, I know, I said I liked that, but I also didn't. you when someone has something to say, and they just need to get it out, almost all in one sentence?? well, to me, it seemed a little like that. Rushed.

if you like dark characters, with some meat on their bones, with no airs and graces about who and, more importantly, WHAT they are, this is for you.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book takes some getting used to. It has a lot of new terminology (creatureology) that I simply didn't understand. A Mystic, for example, is part vampyra, which is a shape-shifting witch. Then there are also Nyhiya, the term used for soul mate or your one true love and the Hyjia, explained as human cat-like hybrids. These creatures are all called 'the tarnished' by Mooyers (humans who hunts and kills them).
At the end of the book there is a detailed list of all the creatures and the names meanings supplied, which I would have loved to have had before I started the Dark Indiscretions journey.

The book is fast paced, with lots of action parts that was enjoyable enough. The events take place in two different eras, but the switch between past and present was easy to follow.

Mother (Jenny) and daughter (Krista) are the protagonists in Dark Indiscretions. They find their Nyhiya at the same time and both turn out to be two men, making these unions basically two women entering into two different set relationships with two gay couples.
Being supernaturals, they can sense each other and know when their partners are in trouble or in a passionate moment. A word of warning though, the sex scenes are rough.

Krista's father is resurrected. He captures and tortures her to get his true love Jenny back. Their mates protects them with their lives and they manage to save mother and daughter, but not without damage to Krista's sanity.

This book is about Mystics, Dylias, and Hyjias. Dylias and Hyjias have been warned about Mystics their whole lives, that they are monsters that even the monsters fear. While Dylias and Hyjias may kill, Mystics did it just for fun. Jennifer and her daughter Krista are Mystics. Jennifer is unlike any other Mystic. She only takes sips from people when she has to, to survive. She has taught Krista that just because her kind kills doesn’t mean she has to be like them. So when Krista meets her Nyhiyas(soul mates) and one is a Dylia and one is a Hyjia they are confused at first. It isn’t normal to have more than one mate and even rarer for them to be of a different race. Krista’s Hyhijas lead to her mother finding her Hyhijas as well. Jennifer’s past is coming back to haunt her and now her daughter is endanger because of it. Their mates won’t allow anything to happen to them. Now they must all face Jennifer’s past that has come back and whatever that may bring. I really enjoyed this book. It was very well written and the characters were engaging. I really liked how different Jennifer was from the others from her kind. I also liked that even know Jennifer’s mates weren’t necessarily happy they had a Mystic for a mate at first they still wouldn’t allow anything to happen to her. The world that was created in this book is fantastic. There are so many types of paranormal creatures and they all come together to help each other. I am excited to read the second book in this series.

I was given this book in return for an honest review.

This is the fast-paced tale of Jennifer Johnston, a Mystic (that's a part vampire, part shape-shifting witch to you and me). Now Mystics have a bad reputation and for the most part, that's well deserved. Jennifer, however, is the anomaly. She's the one who doesn't want to be bad, who has gotten on with her life and is doing just dandy. That is until her daughter finds her mates.

I liked the idea of this book but have to say that I had some problems with it in reality. The thing for me is that there is no build up, no impact, no time to process. It is all done quite matter-of-factly and almost unemotionally. And I'm saying that for parts of the story that really, really should have had more of an impact.

I will give one example which is not Jennifer's story but is to do with her. She has met her mates - Yey! One of them rejects her because she is a Mystic - Boo! But instead of this building up and finding out how it would affect the trio with one of them so against the idea, this is what happens. He has a temper tantrum, she goes upstairs. The second male gives the first one a dirty look and follows her upstairs. They then have sex (!), first male joins in, everything's fine, let's carry on with the story. Nothing was resolved, no questions answered, just let's have sex and that will sort it.

It's the same throughout the book, even the ending. Now I like a book that is fast paced and doesn't drag but I would still like to have had 'more'. I liked the concept but struggled with the reality.

Fierce women and their fierce men….This is not for the faint of heart. Very explicit scenes (sex, violence, and strong language). If you want cute and sweet, this is not for you. This is a new twist to our paranormal world. There are Mystics that are vampyra, shape shifting hybrids, Dylias that are shape shifting wolves, Hyjias are human-cat like hybrids, and Mooyers that are the humans who know about the paranormal world.

We are introduced to Jenny, a badass mystic. In her past she had to do and endure terrible things with her family. She has since moved on and is trying to stay under the radar as Mystics are not known for their kindness. All she wants is to keep her daughter safe and to meet her Nyhiya, her one true love. Things start to go crazy when she and her daughter are both mated to different species other than Mystics. No one is happy, but eventually acceptance is reached. To add to the madness, her past comes back to haunt her. Her daughter, Krista, is kidnapped. Jenny, her mates, and Krista’s mates are going insane trying to save Krista. Everyone’s loyalty is put to the test to see just how far everyone is willing to go to save the ones they love. And now the Mooyers are lurking around….

I read this in one sitting. This is an amazing storyline that just doesn’t stop. The author does not keep you waiting to find out what’s around the next corner. This is an amazing start to a great new series.

When i first started this book, i was actually quite confused as to what was going on and who everyone was and their connections. Jenny is a Mystic, a Vampyra shape shifting witch who has lived for thousands of years. She didn't like how her family were always looking for there next kill so she killed them all in 1625. They did some awful things to her before she killed them. Then the book takes you to 2012, Jenny has a daughter Krista who is also a Mystic. Then we have Jackson and Taylor who are Dylia's and happen to be Jenny's mates which causes quite a few problems. Krista also ends up meeting her two mates, Taz and Nathan. Taz is a Dylia and Nathan is a Hyjia so this presents itself as another problem as all species are supposed to find there mates within their own species. All this is going on as well as Jenny's uncle James, who she hasn't seen for centuries starts stalking her as he believe she is his and no one elses and he will do anything to get her. This book did grow on me towards the middle of the book and i started to understand the story more. I do wish it was a bit longer and had a bit more to the story but i did enjoy it and i'm looking forward to reading book two. I'm hoping that book two will go into more depth with the story.

I’ve had this book on my shelf for a long time and kept passing it up. On a whim I started reading it and found I liked every sinister nook which had me craving for more. This was my first experience was a fantasy/paranormal read that took on a different approach from the everyday shape shifter, vampire, werewolf tales. I was pleasantly surprised of the author’s ability to incorporate so many different themes and traits in one book effortlessly.

As I previously stated, this is not your usual paranormal read but a dark and disturbing tale of incest, M/M, F/M/F, and even M/F/M shape shifter encounters. The unions are not all welcomed and smooth in the beginning but I have to say I loved every minute of them. The story has terms I was not familiar with in a typical fantasy/paranormal book but author, Shakuita Johnson does a good job incorporating the meaning in the flow of the storyline that does not distract or take away from the overall flow of the action.

All characters are relevant and add depth to the story. The heroine, Jennifer is strong and resilient among a slew of Alphas and Betas. She can definitely hold her on. Even though the ending was a bit predictable I plan on continuing with the series to see what happens. Dark Indiscretions is for anyone who is into dark, taboo encounters, ménage, and same sex partners.

Jennifer Johnston is a Mystic, part of a deadly group of supernatural that are considered the boogie men to the other races. Mates, Jackson Dawls and Taylor Durham are the betas of their wolf pack. Imagine their surprise when they discover they have an additional mate, of a species they were told to stay away from since childhood. Strange things are happening, and Jennifer is being stalked. Wondering whether her mates will accept and help her or leave her to fend for herself.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Dark Indiscretions after starting the book. I’m glad I kept reading because it is an interesting story the further along you get. I think I was just disturbed by Jennifer’s family in the beginning of the novel. That being said, I feel the initial story is also very necessary for the rest of the book.

Dark Indiscretions demonstrates valuable life lessons, like don’t always believe what you hear. Additionally, individuals should be judged for themselves and not their race. I really enjoyed that aspect of the novel.

I would recommend this book to lovers of paranormal romance. It is a quick read that is exciting throughout.

Jennifer did what she had to do 400 years ago, killing her family wasn't what she wanted to do but it was better than what they wanted of her . She's always wanted her mate but after so long didn't think it would ever happen, and now that it has it's come at the worst possible time. With her past coming back to haunt her Jennifer has to find a way to keep everyone safe, and time is short to figure everything out.

Jennifer is awsome, she's hard core but when there's someone she cares about she will do anything to protect them. Jackson is an alpha in many ways, but he's a hard headed one. When someone he cares about is in danger he'll do anything to protect them, but when something happens he doesn't like it's hard for him to get his head out of his ass and figure out whats' really best for everyone rather than what he thinks is best. Taylor is the sensible middle guy. He's caring and compationate and can see both sides of a story. He helps bring balance to them all.

There are many other characters as well and it was interesting seeing how they all interacted, there are allot of things to learn about this interesting paranormal world the author created. Great short read that keeps you interested in what will happen next and I'm excited to see more of this series.

I was given this book in return for an honest review. I am not one to tell much about a book as I don't want to give anything away. This was a paranormal erotic book like nothing else. I didn't really think much could shock me in the way of erotica but this took the cake. However, I digress...

I loved a different type of supernatural. I loved reading about a whole other race and we aren't talking your warm and fuzzy types either. They did everything with passion, sex, love, kill, and fight. I admired the main character Jenny for fighting against her true nature and being an anomaly, black sheep, in her family. I can totally relate to that.

However, the characters were good but none overly likable. I just didn't care what happened to anyone. I spent a good deal of the book confused by who was with who and what was going on. There was zero explanation at all. I did love the fact that there were no labels. Two guys being together they weren't gay they just happened to be soul mates who were the same sex.

I finished the book in a slight stupor and a bit confused. I feel like a side character said it perfectly, "Well that was anticlimactic." The end fight scene was exactly that. As much as I love paranormal, this was not my cup of tea.

Dark Indiscretions is a new twist on Paranormal. Dominating men and fierce women not to be messed with. This book is about a woman named Jenny who struggles to not be like her family.
Jennifer is such a strong woman who has been hurt soo much by the people who are supposed to love her. She has a crazy past that you will not believe, a daughter who is barely controlled and men who aren't too happy to be bound with her. Or are they? *wink wink* She keeps her daughter krista safe and unknowing of her past. The truth will bite her in the ass. You have no idea how!
Krista goes through some challenges one should never endure. You wont believe what happens!
Ahh and the Men, ohhh the men! who doesn't love a love triangle between two men and a woman? Hotx10! Especially since Both Jenny and her daughter have men after their hearts!
After you read this book you will be screaming for more! I love the way Shakuita has made a series that is different, but oooh soo good! I cannot wait for the next book to come out! This one kept me drooling and wanting more! If you want something different, this book is for you!

Dark Indiscretions is a fast-paced and entertaining paranormal novel. Even though Jenny and her daughter Krista find their mates, it's not really a romance. It's more of an action novel with a couple of good sex scenes thrown in and the mating scene between Jenny and her mates was hot! The book is heavy on the dialogue and the characters' inner thoughts, a feat which Ms. Johnson pulled off well, as I never once got confused as to who was speaking or thinking. Some authors cannot write dialogue-heavy books, but it served the author well and she used it successfully to keep the action and story moving forward.

I appreciated the way in which the author took paranormal creatures we are familiar with and gave them a twist to make them her own. The Mystics were by far the most interesting to me as a vampire-witch hybrid (a very simplified definition) and this was magnified because Jenny has the personality that she does. She is a badass. The other characters were also engaging and I am looking forward to reading more about them in the sequel.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I got through over half the book before I realized I was bored reading it. It could have been good. The main character is a supernatural creature, sort of like a vampire, but not, and their kind is known for being inbred and very mean and evil. he decided in her adolescence, when she was 100 or more, that she couldn't keep on with her family, being so evil, and she wanted to be good, and she separates with the rest of her kind. Fast forward to present time. In this world, all supernatural creatures have one or two soulmates, and when they see them, they just know, and instantly bond. I kind of liked that idea. Beware, because this book is graphic with sex, which is fine with me, but maybe not some people. The main girl finds both her soulmates, and her daughter also finds both her soulmates, all at the same time, but now they must fight off something bad that's come to town. The characters all seem fake and under developed. This is more of a romance novel and less a supernatural story with a real plot. I appreciate that soulmates can go across gender and supernatural species line, but it all comes out boring. There's better books to read.

An Epic Masterpiece...and this is only the first book in the series!!!

Shakuita Johnson has created a world that I do not want to leave!!! The story that she has created is EPIC!!! The story of Jennifer Johnston is one that I found myself getting lost in and I was so sad when the story ended. I cannot wait to get lost in the next book in this series. This book is dark, twisted, and filled with enough family drama to make you want to move to a private island and never deal with anyone..EVER AGAIN. (I mean that in the best way possible!!!)

The Jonhnston family is crazy as hell. Shakuita Johnson has done a truly amazing job of creating characters that are both crazy as hell and interesting in the same moment. You are drawn into their crazy and want to know more!! I am such a fan of this series!! I highly recommend it and promise that you will not be disappointed. The love scenes are on point and the action scenes are epic!! This is truly a book that I am glad that I picked up!!

Well Done Shakuita Johnson!!! I cannot wait to find out what happens to Jenny, Krista, and the rest of your characters!!!

I really enjoyed the character development and the fact that the author delved right into the action and issues of the book. There was no question on who had issue with what. I found myself taking a moment to review a couple lines because I didn't realize that the point of view had changed. I will admit that I didn't read the synopsis. I saw the cover on this and figured that I wanted read the book. I am a sucker for a good paranormal book. I would be interested to see what, if there is going to be, will come of the characters that were introduced.

****SPOILERS TO FOLLOW****

I did find some editing issues with this book. I will look into the author a little later and see if the next book flows better than this one did. I questioned some of the behaviors of the characters as well. I wanted the characters to be a little more urgent in their quest to find the main characters daughter. Some of the clarifications of the characters feelings just weren't there or were a reiteration of what was previously stated.

I'll be honest with the author Ms. Shakuita Johnson, I read your book, And guess what? I couldn't put my hands off this series!!! It was seriously so good! I like it so much that I have to finished it regardless what time it is. I remember finishing it around 2am but I actually started reading it at 8pm. You're right, I read it so fast because it is seriously sooo good! lol Anyways, most of the reviews here they like Jennifer's character, I like her too but I love Taylor and Jackson the most. They are the coolest tandem ever! And for me, they are the best mates anyone could ask for because regardless how crazy and disturbing Jenny's past life is, still they managed to accept Jenny wholeheartedly and protects her at all costs. Those two just turns me on! *blush*

But yeah can't wait for the next book!!! Especially after reading the prologue! God damn Shakuita knows how to keep her audience hanging! Kudos for Shakuita's work!

**I obtained this book through the Goodreads First Read contest. An honest review was desired.**

I liked the overall story presented by Shakuita Johnson. However, I did find the beginning a bit confusing to completely sort out with the vast number of characters and stories to start. Jenny does get presented as a woman who has something to prove and wants to do things her way.

There are quite a bit of dark/sensitive subjects including rape, incest, and torture, so beware if you are uncomfortable with these subjects. Johnson, treated these subjects very well though. The banding together of the characters despite the differences, was a nice thing to see. While I did like the book, I was a bit put off by the pace of the story. It seemed a bit sped up, and I would have liked a little more time to finish up some of the loose ends. I understand that some there needed to be room for the sequel, but I'm not sure that I would be super excited to read the sequel despite liking the book.

The book immediately introduces you to its protagonist, Jennifer Johnston. Past and present as well as different events are presented alternately and cleverly. This combination of important and believable characters with all their virtues and flaws and the overall course of events support this fast read. It is a fast read and – you feel the urge to continue reading, to find out what is going to happen next. It is an adult fantasy – comprising a little violence and lust as well as adventure. It is a clever combination, making you want to read the next volume as soon as possible.

With this first volume of the Dark Indiscretions series, Shakuita Johnson provides us with a promising start of an erotic fantasy series for adults. A good read for all readers who enjoy fantasy series with an erotic touch as well as with twists and turns in an everyday and sometimes even completely different environment.

This is a book to read again.

I liked Dark Indiscretions as a whole because the story line is interesting. A shape-shifting witch vampyra is mated to two werewolves that have been mated for years together. But she brings along personal baggage that creates havoc with their bonding and threatens the lives of all those around her. Who wouldn't want to have two very hot Alpha males to mate with? Jenny is beautiful and sweet, but has an evil side to her and a heritage that she fights to keep under control . Can she contain it? Can she protect her daughter from her past? Will she lose it all when the past comes to attack her?

This book is 18+ without a doubt due to language and sexual situations. If you do not like F/M/M sex scenes then you should pass on this book. It was only one scene but it was detailed. If you love them or are able to read through them and enjoy a story for itself then you should read this book which is first in the series. I will be reading Monster Unleashed very soon.

Menage story 18+ readers only
Jenny has just discovered she has two new mates, Jackson and Taylor that have such different personalities, but they compliment each other, even though they all fight it at first. I liked that Jenny and her daughter, Krista fought their baser instincts to be better than what is expected of them and now their new mates will help them along the way. Jenny went through so many horrors with her family centuries ago, but still managed to be better than them and made sure her daughter would be as well.
After finding their new mates, Jenny and Krista discover they are being followed by a sadistic murderer that is after them both. Jenny, Krista and their new mates Taylor, Jackson, Taz and Nathan will have to work together to uncover the killer and try to protect the girls with help from their packs. Little do they know it is someone from Jenny's past that she never would expect.

****4.5 Stars***
I love the way Shakuita Johnson writes paranormal fantasy/romance. These are not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill characters. She pushes your comfort level, and I loved it. This book is not for everyone, but if you truly enjoy a fascinating spin on the paranormal world, then I highly recommend you read this book.
Jennifer Johnston, a powerful mystic, just wants to lead a quiet ordinary life with her daughter Krista. Not like her mother, Krista is fighting the beast within her. It is a fine line, and her mother is the only one who can keep the beast in its cage. Jennifer's past is coming back to haunt her. She had thought that all those years ago she had eliminated anyone trying to harm her.
There are many complex characters in this story, and their lives start to unravel and I want to see how they all tie together. I am fascinated by all of them and look forward to reading more about them in Monsters Unleashed.
