Britax Max Way in Ford Grand C Max

I visited Winstanleys Pram Centre in Wigan today to try the Britax max way in my Ford Grand C Max.

As per Britax I was only allowed to try it in the middle seat which I was fine with and it fitted really well and neither my husband (6'2") or I (5'11") had to move our seats forward due to the way the seat narrows at the top. Seat was lovely and my ds (2yrs 8months) loved it although he looked like he would outgrow soon.

The only problem we had was that we couldn't fit our maxi cosi pebble back on its isofix base next to it. Gutted!

They also told me I shouldn't be using the isofix base because of the storage boxes... Does anyone know if this is really an issue for an infant seat? If so I will need to use without base which is a real hassle.

Does anyone use a britax car seat with the foot prop all the way to the bottom of a storage box? They girls today were going to check with britax If this can be done but going from the manual they didn't think it could.

Here are some pictures

The ladies at the shop were great and really helpful.

How much longer do you think my ds would last in this seat height wise? He's 15.5kg now but about 96cm but long bodied

I'm probably going to go for the mini kid now as I know if the foot prop is long enough I can have on an outer seat should I have the same problems fitting on the middle seat

  • I think the max way has a super long leg especially to reach the bottom of storage boxes, but it depends if the bottom of the box is strong enough to support the leg in the event of an accident. If it is strong enough then I don't think there would be any problem with the leg going to the bottom. As for the isofix base, I think it's the same for all legs, they can't rest on the top of an empty box. If you check the maxi cosi website they have a fit finder and it should be able to tell you if it's ok for your car in specific positions.
  • Bump... Can anyone take a look at my son in this seat and estimate how much longer he will last in it height wise? Is it when his ears are in line with the top?

Has anyone tried their Lo in the max way and mini kid and is there much difference? I'm about to order the minikid I think but just want to check its not too much smaller than this seat

    Thanks
  • There are some pics of my 6yr old in this seat in the photo board at the bottom of this page, I think her stats are on there too

  • Hey V, just seen in your photos that you've got a DVD player attached so rf baby can see it - is this OK to do so? We've not done it so far as I thought there was an issue in the event of an accident that it could detach and would then obviously come flying forwards. We're driving to France at the weekend and would really like to use our DVD player for rf dd.

or does anyone else know about this?

    Sorry to hijack! x

  • Hi laurieleigh we actually only put the DVD player rear facing on that day as my baby girl was getting restless while we were messing around fitting the seats and was waiting around in the car a lot and it had been an hour journey to the shop. We usually just have the one DVD player hooked up for my ds who ff.

I hadn't thought it would be an issue in a crash so glad you brought it to my attention... I will look into but I'm not sure how different it is to a ff child... Maybe I will have to get rid of the DVD players all together now.

  • thanks for replying, I'll have a little google and see if I can find any info online. I just seem to recall something about objects getting propelled forward in a crash (hence why rf is safer).

I think using them ff is fine as they obviously can't then get propelled forward as the headrest is there IKYWIM? x

  • Hi, we've used a next base DVD rf for my son, it has been crash tested apparently so assumed it was ok. But don't know for sure.
  • I just thought I would update this thread with some info about the grand c-max and its storage boxes.

I contacted ford because my hand book stated that it was ok to use a car seat with a foot prop as long as the foam filler was in place.

I didn't know my car has one but it does and looks like this

It is only needed in the box behind the driver apparently the box behind the passenger doesn't require one (sounds odd but it is a different shape/size)

    They also said...

"Please note the foam filler does not need to fill the entire storage compartment. This will act as a support so that the child seat with support leg cannot fall through the space."

Thought this may be useful to anyone considering this car who wants to erf.

They also said cars manufactured from next year won't have storage boxes (c max that is)

  • vee83- check that is the correct foam filler as it doesn't look right to me, my friend has a Ford Galaxy and her foam fillers actually fill the box, looks like the filler is missing to me but I am no expert!

Re the Nextbase dvd player, we have it, it has been crash tested, it is secured to the head rest with screws so is the safest one around I believe

  • Thanks trinams ford customer services actually emailed me a picture of the filler and mine is the same as the picture they sent so I'm hoping I can trust it.

I also have it on email from them that it doesn't need to fill the whole space.. Gonna keep those emails safe should there be any issues.

Thanks for the info on the DVD I'm going to look into that now. I'm not using a DVD player rf now but will want to when my minikid arrives for ds as he loves to watch Thomas in the car x
