Bellevue school to open nursery in the New Year

News

Weston Green School, a Bellevue school based in Thames Ditton, is set to expand its Kindergarten provision with a new nursery class and Garden Room from January 2021.

The new class will accept children from two years of age. The nursery’s newly built Garden Room will act as an additional break-out space solely for children across Early Years, allowing a flexible and safe approach to activities both inside and out.

With the option of choosing traditional school ‘term time’ or ‘extended year’ (48 weeks) throughout the holidays, the new nursery class will learn and play alongside the nursery’s current Kindergarten children, as well as having dedicated time for age-appropriate activities.

During term time, the children will follow a structured Early Years curriculum to prepare them for starting school. In the holiday periods, children will take part in Early Years activities with members of the nursery team who they will be familiar with from their usual school life. In this way, whether attending the ‘term time’ or ‘extended year’ provision, no nursery pupil misses out on any curriculum-based learning.

Nursery children will benefit from weekly lessons in Music, French and Games, with regular opportunities for learning outdoors including ‘Forest School’ sessions. They will enjoy home-cooked lunches, with optional afternoon activities include yoga, cookery and arts and crafts.

Founded in 1952, Weston Green School is housed in a Victorian building dating back to 1828. It benefits from being in a conservation area, surrounded by green spaces.

Newly appointed Nursery Manager, Sarah Merry, has worked at Weston Green School’s Early Years department for four years, with a background of over 20 years in Early Years education.

Mrs Merry comments:

‘The new Nursery is an exciting development for Weston Green School. We have a fantastic team of staff in Early Years and we are all committed to giving every child the best possible experiences at this important and crucial time of their development.

‘Working with children means that no day is ever the same, and this is one of the parts of my job that I love!’
