A season on the mend ended in a little bit of history for former Alabama nose guard

Jesse Williams

.

Williams didn't play a down this season because of a knee injury, but he was on hand to celebrate Seattle's 43-8 Super Bowl XLVIII victory over Denver. There are pictures to prove it, as Williams received some private time with the Lombardi Trophy.

, Williams is the first native Australian to win a Super Bowl ring.

Though he fell to the fifth round, Williams was coveted by the Seahawks, who gave up two picks later in the 2013 NFL Draft to move up and select the tattooed defensive tackle. He was placed on injured reserve near the end of training camp and effectively shelved for the season.

“His knee just wasn’t responding well enough and it’s going to take him a long time to give him the consideration to get him right,’’ Seattle coach

Pete Carroll

. “So this is the right thing to do for Jesse. He did everything we asked of him and looked good when he had his chances but his knee just wasn’t holding up, so we have to give him a big break."

Williams was one of two former Alabama players to win a ring, joining left guard

James Carpenter

. Though the two junior-college transfers were never on the same Alabama team together, they found time for a photograph after Sunday's rout.
