Stern’s 60th birthday bash – how’s this lineup !

Staff Writer

On Friday night in the US, Howard Stern hosted his 60th birthday bash.

SiriusXM enabled anyone in the world to listen to the broadcast live when usually his live shows can only be heard by subscribers to satellite radio in the states.

It was a birthday radio show like no other.

Guests included talk show hosts David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, recorded messages from the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ellen. There were lots of interviews with comedians and movie stars plus the event included musical guests Adam Levine, Train, Jon Bon Jovi, John Mayer, The Black Keys, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters (whose acoustic version of Everlong was made famous after he played it on Stern's show in 1998).

The show went for 4 and a half hours (with a 2 hour pre-show) with the finale seeing Tyler, Slash, Grohl and Train join to perform Walk This Way.

"As a kid, all I wanted to do was go on the radio and have somebody appreciate what I had to say…..I never envisioned I'd make more than $96 a week in this industry or be part of anything this big. When I look around this room, I am overwhelmed and, I mean this, it was the most incredible night of my life," said Stern.

The full show is being replayed at 6am Monday in the US, 10pm Monday night EST in Australia (here). If you want to hear many of the moments from the broadcast (unfortunately no songs), have a listen below :-
