MEET THE LEFTIES: Pair of duos coming from UC-Irvine, Tulane

Meet the Lefties is occasional feature introducing players on the team’s 2018 roster.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles lefties announced the latest signees to their 2018 team, including two players from Tulane and two from UC Irvine.

The Lefties new signees are infielder David Langer of UConn, infielder David Bedgood and Outfielder Michael Sepcich Jr. of Tulane, and battery mates catcher Jacob Castro and pitcher Andre Antone of UC Irvine and Tristian Hanoian of TCU.

“The goal for the 2018 Lefties roster was to start developing working relationships with some of the top baseball programs in the country” said Lefties head coach Darren Westergard. “TCU, UC Irvine, Tulane and Connecticut have been on the baseball map for years. We are excited to get some of their up and coming talent to add to our roster”.

David Langer

IF David Langer, sophomore, UConn — 6-1, 205, from Berkeley, Calif. At Berkeley High School, Langer was a four-year letterman for the Berkeley Yellowjackets. He was a first team All-West Alameda County Conference selection and a second-team All-East Bay selection as a senior, hitting .441 with four home runs, eight doubles, three triples, and 29 RBI. He also slugged .823. He was first team all-league selection as a junior, hitting .375 with eight extra base hits and an all-league honorable mention selection as a sophomore. He was the first freshman to play varsity for the Yellowjackets in 10 years.

David Bedgood

IF David Bedgood, freshman, Tulane — 5-11, 171, from Sherman, Texas. Bedgood was a four-year letterman at Sherman High School in Sherman, Texas, playing shortstop and pitcher for the Bearcats. He was the team and All-District MVP his senior season. He led his team to the second round of state playoffs as a senior, hitting .410 with five home runs, 30 RBIs and a .520 on-base percentage. He was a Verde Dickey award winner as a senior for overall athletic and academic performance and made second-team all-county honors as a junior and first-team honors as a senior.

He also lettered three years in football at quarterback, earning first-team All-District honors as a senior.

Michael Sepcich Jr.

OF Michael Sepcich Jr., Freshman, Tulane – 6-1, 206, from Mandeville, La.. A three-year letterman at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, he played center field for the Blue Jays as a senior, hitting .364 with five home runs, 12 doubles and 26 RBIs. He earned second-team All-Metro honors and was ranked 10th in the Louisiana class of 2017 by Perfect Game and selected to Louisiana High School Coaches Association 2017 All-Star team.

Sepcich finished high school with a career batting average of .340.

Jacob Castro

C Jacob Castro, freshman, UC Irvine – 6-0, 197, from Camarillo, Calif. Castro is hitting .237 for UC Irvine this year with a .314 OBP and four extra-base hits. At Rio Mesa High School, he was a 2017 first-team All-League and first-team All-County; 2016 League Player of the Year, first-team All-County; 2015 team MVP, second-team All-League, second-team All-County; 2014 team MVP and first-team All-League, first-team All-County.

Andre Antone

RHP Andre Antone, freshman, UC Irvine – 6-5, 235, from Laguna Niguel, Calif. At Capistrano Valley Christian High School, Antone was the 2017 San Joaquin League MVP and the 2017 Capistrano Valley Christian High School Athlete of the Year 2017. He was also first-team All-League 2016, Pitcher of the Year in 2015 and first-team All-CIF Div 4.

Tristan Hanoian

IF Tristan Hanoian, freshman, TCU – 5-8, 180, from Costa Mesa, Calif. Hanoian played four years on varsity at Orange Lutheran High School, earning first-team all-Trinity League as a senior. He was also named first-team All County and was a Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American as a senior. He was also named first-team All-Region and was a two-time Perfect Game Underclass All-American.

Hanoian was named to USA Baseball’s All-NHSI team as a senior and appeared in the Orange County All-Star baseball game as a senior.
