I used to talk to residents of Toronto about Indian movies. They explained to me that "Torontian" is how to refer to them. But now I read a commentary by a resident in my paper and he said "Torontonian". Are both correct, then?

As I say, this came from residents of GTA, so I don 't know what to say.

Actually makes more sense than Torontians. I was saying Torontoans back then when I got corrected.

It's been "Torontonians" ever since I grew up, and I lived in Toronto for over forty years.

Heck, the Toronto Telegram (anybody remember that?) ran a daily column called "Torontonians," which, if memory serves, was slices-of-life from everyday city residents.
