SAIMC supporting FIRST Robotics South Africa

1 October 2017 SAIMC

The SAIMC is now proudly supporting FIRST Robotics in South Africa. As a member of the SAIMC, you are invited to attend these robotics events and be part of an initiative where children learn by building robots.

FIRST is a non-profit organisation that supplies an educational program for learners between 6 and 18 years of age, which aims to inspire young people to be leaders in science and technology through robotics programs. The robots serve as a vehicle for students to learn important life skills and ultimately bring more engineers, scientists and innovators into industry.

Currently there are three robotics programs in five provinces across South Africa. First Lego League Junior (FLL Jr.), First Lego League (FLL) and First Tech Challenge (FTC). These programs are always looking for volunteers and supporters to help expand the program to reach more children.

FIRST extends an invitation to become a volunteer at its next robotics competition. Whether you have a weekend to help, want to mentor a team, have technical or non-technical expertise, or just want to get an idea of what it is all about, there is a volunteer role suited to all unique interests.

All sponsors are helping FIRST to inspire young people to become the next generation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics professionals. This interest and support, including financial collaborations, donations of equipment or facilities, scholarships and mentoring programs, provides the vital resources necessary for FIRST’s organisational growth. Benefits include strengthening the company’s reputation in the community, recognition across FIRST events, and employee growth through training in volunteer positions.
