Rate this book
Shawna grew up with a secret that she couldn't share with anyone. She thought of it as her "inner demon" and it shaped her life. When she became an adult, it sent her on a quest to try to find her Real Home. In Paris, she fell in love with a fellow traveler who changed her life, for better or worse. Their relationship was full of discovery and of lessons learned.

How could she come to terms with her "inner demon"? Can we change our fate or karma? Does love really conquer all?

This book is based on a true story of an independent woman's search for her true self and the meaning of life, and how she found answers in unexpected places.

Let the journey begin...

This book is one about self discovery, journeys and life. while the writing is wonderful, I wasn't completely always sucked into the story. this is not to say the book wasn't interesting or one that shouldn't be read. In fact one should read this for it tests you as a reader and shows you that life doesn't always give you want you hope for.

There were parts i enjoyed immensely and others that just didn't call to me.

What I enjoyed:

John: I loved his lost soul and how he was trying hard to find himself. I love the fact that he was fallible . He shows no one is perfect and we shouldn't fault those that are lost as they find their way. He was sweet and kind and loving. I wonder though if some of Shawna's actions and words towards him helped create what occurred at the end. I think he knew after Israel she didn't really trust his judgement and didn't think he was good enough even though she stayed.

Connor: I don't know why but he just stuck with me.

I loved the journey and the adventures. The way there was always a lesson to be learned. I loved that at times the writing had an air of wispiness that lended itself to the self discovery and feeling of how life has twists and turns.

What was hard to swallow:

How John turned. I truly believe this was a buildup of being treated with love and also disdain. Take Israel for example, Shawna said some horrible and hurtful things there and in Greece. But John let it roll off his back and continue to love her. He was lost and with her he felt grounded but I wonder if all that was said and the actions of Shawna didn't build up and finally take its toll. It became obvious she didn't value his opinion.

The way Shawna treated John at times. She wasn't perfect and yet she sometimes acted it. Also in Cadiz when she left Connor with questions. If you had these questions, why go? Just because you made a promise doesn't mean you should go. that is the wrong reason to go to John and it showed as throughout the book you questioned that decision. this was most likely felt by John and didn't help him feel safe and secure in your feelings for him.

Overall:

The book is interesting and will take you on a journey. The book is a journey that one endeavors to take. It isn't always what you want to read and it doesn't always make you want to read on and that is good and this is because you get into a groove of wanting something to happen that doesn't. We forget that this book is about self discovery and journeys in life and that life isn't always what we want and this makes us disappointed sometimes with the journey the book brings us on. When this occurs, just go forth for the lessons that can be learned from going on are ones that may be worthwhile for you. We see through this book' journey that life is messy and wonderful at the same time. We see that things aren't always what we want and that we sometimes do things that hurt others more than we realize.

This book is about self-discovery, a journey to find herself and life. Shawna had always felt like she never fit in in her family. She felt like her family was hers and her hometown of Miami was not where she belonged. She graduated and worked 3 jobs just to make enough money to travel the world and try to find where her true home was. On her journeys she met many people and experienced love and friendship on her way. Lyn was her travel companion for the first part of her journey and they became fast friend while traveling Europe. They met up with a couple guys in Paris and she fell quickly in love with John, but as she had planned her trip continued and the couple and friends split ways to continue their journeys. Shawna made a promise to John, the guy she met in Paris, that she would come back to see him, and almost got side tracked by another young man. While Shawna keep her promise to John? Where will her travels lead her? Will Shawna find her true home before she returns to Miami? Or is Miami where she belongs? Read it to find out!
This book was an interesting read and very eye opening to how people feel. I loved Lyn and her free spirit. Shawna made me realize that life isn’t worth living if there is no risk. I enjoyed this book and found the travels and information very appealing. I have always wanted to travel Europe myself but not backpacking and staying in Hostels.
This is a definite read for someone who is interested in a view of a person life journey and an adventure into Europe and the beauties of friendship made while they were out on their own.
I received this book for an honest review from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock and Shawna C. Jones.

How nice it would be to wander the world, unfettered by the day to day? To have a chance to discover the deepest parts of ourselves, without carrying the weight of our families and our pasts? We’ve all daydreamed about this from time to time; then the real world comes crashing in and we realize that we should have indulged our wanderlust before the kids, the jobs and other responsibilities of adulthood took hold of our lives.

For me, reading Twist of Fate was the next best thing. Shawna C. Jones’ debut novel took me on an exploration, not only of the countries the main character visited, but of her internal journey as she tried to tame what she calls her “inner demon”. I felt like I was walking in her footsteps as she moved from hostel to hostel, never quite knowing where the day—or her limited funds—would take her. The journey seems aimless, but at the same time has a sense of the predestined. This young woman is clearly being guided to the places she is to go and the person she is to become.

What I loved most about this book is that it is based on a true story. Shawna shows us the importance of the search for self and the meaning of life, as well as the beauty of finding answers in unexpected places.

I have mixed feelings about this book. While it was written well, it just did not suck me in. I could not really form any kind of bond with any of the characters. I felt disconnected from the story. A few of things that I thought could make the story better is more details of places, events, and characters feelings. Each place was about a chapter long, and the chapters did seem short. I felt that everything was told to the reader, instead of having the reader experience the things along with the characters. Like I said before while it was written well, it just wasn’t the type of book I could get into. I like books with more depth, more of a story line that will suck you right on in, characters that are more developed. I give this book 3.5 stars. While this book was not for me, it may be right up your alley. If the blurb looks good, give it a go.
