This is my favourite book in the Air Awakens series. Earth’s End also contains one of the best written extended fight sequences I’ve ever read. It’s dramatic, emotional, and I was never confused about who was where on the battlefield or what was happening.
This is the final book in Clare’s Infernal Devices trilogy and the denouement is amazing. As magical power-ups go, few beat the satisfaction of this one. My jaw literally dropped and I reread the passage a few times just so I could savour it.
This book is here for disastrous World War 2 beach landings. I was a teenager when I read this and it introduced me to the reality that sometimes in war your troops are mowed down by friendly fire. I’ve also never lost the big impression the naval cannons made on me.
There are creepy gremlin creatures riding around inside corpses like they’re mushy mechasuits. No other reason is needed! The small ones are both funny and disturbing while the megazords of putrefying flesh are nightmarish.
