TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — Competing in his third college indoor track meet, Alabama's 5-star cornerback freshman Tony Brown is already making some noise.

The Beaumont, Texas product finished third in the 60-meter hurdles at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday. His time of 7.83 in the finals was the fourth fastest time in school history.

Brown ran a 7.95 in the semifinals after clocking in at 7.92 in the preliminaries — the eighth fastest run in the Alabama record books.

His times Friday marked a significant improvement over his performance two weeks ago in Bloomington, Ind. Competing in the Indiana Relays, Brown barely missed the semifinals with a time of 8.20.

In high school, Brown had the fastest indoor 60-meter hurdles time in the country last year with a 7.76. Fellow Alabama football signee Marlon Humphrey also has a personal best of 7.76 in the indoor 60-meter hurdles. He'll join the track team next spring at Alabama after enrolling this summer.

Brown's outdoor performance in the 110-meter hurdles sent him to the Pan-American Junior Championships where he finished second with a 13.47.

Making his Alabama debut at the Rod McCravy Invitational at Kentucky, Brown ran the 60-meter dash in 6.89 seconds to finish fourth in the white section.

Brown will be on the football field for spring practices starting next month and figures to compete for playing time at cornerback.
