Michael Barnett
got an offer from Alabama on Wednesday. On Thursday, he de-committed from Virginia Tech.
Barnett, who had committed to the Hokies in November,
that the Crimson Tide offer wasn't the reason for his decision, however.
"It didn't have any effect on my decision, but I was just happy that a school of that caliber offered me," he told Rivals, adding that he wanted to take some visits after track season -- he throws the shot put -- and take a closer look at his major.
He
that he may visit Alabama for a junior day event on March 1.
Barnett (6-4, 247), who is being recruited for Alabama by Kevin Steele, also has offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Tennessee. He was credited with 89 tackles, with 31 for losses, and seven sacks in 2013.
